Funny how the incessant "banter" on my Whatsapp from Chavs since losing to Palace has all of a sudden stopped tonight...

Can't think why. :D

Shambles tonight. Sarri won't last.

Some pundit last week said that he's a man with no medals trying to motivate a team full of winners. That is true, but this squad has previous for downing tools when they don't fancy it and he keeps speaking to the media about how hard it is to motivate the players. He also doesn't seem to have any input into the squad - from what he says, the board are signing players and deciding the future of others without asking him. No point if there's no guarantee this manager will be there any longer than the 12-18mths most of them get.

For me this is going to be Chelsea for the remainder of Abramovich's reign at the club.

The players there learn quickly they have all the power so managers come and go, try and stamp their authority but piss off the wrong player and the dressing room is gone, then the writing is on the wall.

still. :finger:

Sarri is a brilliant coach. It's difficult to motivate a team of mostly mercenaries.

Unless he has freedom and time to revolutionise like Poch did he's a gonner.

not if they dont get top 4. Without top 4 the CL money goes buh bye, and so do paying high wages, and recruiting players.
I'm still wondering how you have 68% possession and lose 4-0.

Well they spent £70m on a keeper, beat Man city to Jorginho and just picked up Higuain... So no CL can't hurt too much in terms of recruitment for them... oh yeah and Pulisic for good measure already in the bag!

Their situation is starting to remind me of our club when Poch first arrived and had to get rid of all the bad apples. Thankfully Levy supported him in this.

The Chelsea players need to watch out though. In past seasons they've revolted against their manager, but there's always been money to spend on new signings to reshape their squad and challenge again, after said revolt.

Now, however, Abramovich isn't keen on spending big money anymore so missing out on CL football will start to effect how the club reshapes itself after a 'revolt'. The players could find themselves playing in the Europa League (or worse) for the foreseeable future.

Might help the manager though if potential new signings were discussed with him before they are made no .

Yeah personally I don't think they are a team of winners. They've got some talented players and some of them have technically won things before, but they're not what I would call "winners" in that kind of sense. If they were they wouldn't be satisfied to just phone it in every other game and sulk every five minutes like Hazard etc. I think they need a complete overhaul to be honest. Regardless of who their manager is they seem to have a pretty poor dressing room with lots of complacency and too much player power.

True

To be honest, getting rid of Hazard and bringing in 2 or 3 might actually help them in the long run

I've been wondering that myself. Hazard is a quality player, arguably the best in the league when he can be bothered, but that's the key part, he's quality in half the games but does nothing in the others and it's seemed for years like he doesn't really want to be there. If they let him go to Real MAdrid or wherever, then shift all the deadwood they've got hanging around, use the money to bring in 2 or 3 top players and start actually using some of the undoubtedly talented youth players they have coming out of their academy, then in a couple of years they could have a really solid team. Especially as it would give them the chance to rid themselves of the current dressing room atmosphere/attitude. They're starting to get a bit like Arsenal under Wenger where too many players are too comfortable and just don't have that win at all costs attitude and it's not Sarri's fault because it was an issue under Mourinho and Conte before him.

When they don't want to pay for a manager they always down tools but this is their culture so we can hardly be surprised, mind you if Sarri wasn't so stubborn and play Kante in his proper position then he'd probably win back a lot of trust from the players. Imagine seeing arguably the world's best DMF in the opposition box when the other team is on the attack, I'd be thinking that the manager doesn't have a clue what he's doing tbh.

Yeah but they'll just spend the money they get for their players who are on loan, also they seem to get unbelievably high prices for their players anyway so I don't think they have a problem there, Roman hasn't used his own money for transfers for ages.

It's got to be a matter of time before someone clamps down on what Chelsea are doing with the loan market though surely? THey're making a mockery out of it.

I'm sure I read that the PL are changing the rules in regards to the amount of players any one team can have out on loan?

Rio Ferdinand's comments the other week regarding Sarri and Chelsea players were quite revealing "Player's will be in the WhatsApp group talking about it". I don't doubt it for a second and it must happen at every club. Although I think that comment reveals Rios attitude too.

Yeah he said that and then followed it up with that they'd then be quickly deleting the group. Wont stop a few mischief makers taking screenshots though will it.
