I remember saying in here during the summer that the investments they were making in the team were out of speculation rather than real ambition.

Just look at that team sheet, and tell me with a straight face they have a proper plan based on footballing ambition.

Didn't expect there to be a day where I could name more players in a Luton matchday squad off of the top of my head before a Chelsea one. What a mess they've made of that. God I hope that this is the end of them having sunk so much cash and tied themselves to a few of these absolute anchors for the next 8 years.

They'll always find a way to bounce back, they do have some decent players that just aren't being used properly, a Gallagher, Fernandez and Caicedo midfield should be pretty good.

They've just lost all identity too. Even when they had Havertz, Mount, Kovacic, Pulisic, Azpilicueta, Jorginho and such, there was a heart to the team, even if the quality from some was becoming questionable. They've completely ripped apart anything that was there and left the club with no soul. It's like any work that was done before to build and transition the team over the years was undone in an instant and now they're having to start all over again.

Really odd isn't it when you consider they have the guy from Brighton heading up recruitment.

How the hell have they spent so much money and ended up with a teamsheet like that?
Where the hell are the star players that sort of money should have brought in?!
They do have a lot of injuries tbf. But even with everyone fit, it hardly screams of a billion pound squad.

And those massive contracts too.
Just seems to be a crazy way to build a football club. Too much speculation on young talent coming good and not just cheap young talent, which we all like a punt on but massively over-priced young talent.
I can't help but wonder how many of those players are now regretting the choice they made and how that's going to affect the squad mentality.

It's hard to build a team spirit when half the squad regret joining the club in the first place, not to mention the lack of regular playing time.

It's still early days, of course, but it stinks of the powers that be not understanding football at all.

Anywhere between £50k and £150k a week for 8 years - zero regrets I'd think. They are made for life.

Yeah but surely some of them want to actually enjoy playing football?
Granted, some may be purely driven by money but I'd think it's a minority, all the money in the world isn't going to help if you're miserable and dislike your place of work.
It may soften the blow for a while but it won't last.

And they will. Just not at CL. I can see them midtable, players will still go and play internationals. so they will play.

List of Chelsea wins in 2023:

1-0 vs Crystal Palace, 15 Jan
1-0 vs Leeds, 4 Mar
2-0 vs Dortmund, 7 Mar
3-1 vs Leicester, 11 Mar
3-1 vs Bournemouth, 6 May

3-0 vs Luton, 25 Aug
2-1 vs Wimbledon, 30 Aug

When do we seriously ask if they could go down? I don’t see how a club suddenly turns this around.

I'm convinced Poch is getting sacked before xmas after having a think about it . I reckon they definitely lose against Villa and that run of games after the international break is going to bury him. So who is available to take over? I wonder if managers will start to think if its worth the hassle to go there...
Nagelsmann would be a contender but he's being touted for the Germany job... Who else? Conte? They are so fucked and it's beautiful.

They won't, because they'll get their injured players back and I can think of 3 or 4 teams worse than them. Everton, Sheffield United, Luton and Burnley at the moment.

Yeah, they're not going to be close to relegated, if for no other reason than that they're the cat that always falls on its feet. And there are definitely worse sides. I just hope that enough damage is done in this miserable run of games that they have coming that it ends their season (which Poch seems to think is already done anyway) and that they all have a miserable year of it, because they're owed it, and more. And hopefully then no euro football and this massive squad of no hopers sinks them further over the next couple of years.

Wow, that’s and impressive set of results against some decent oppo….🤣
I knew they’d been bad but I didn’t realise they’d been that bad, similar run as Everton.

Huge, bloated squad of players who will all be wanting to play when fit. No Europe and definitely won't have it next season either... going to be loads of player unrest and players asking to leave. The huge salary and long contracts will be a problem when getting rid...

Hands up anyone who thinks Todd will take any blame for this ham-fisted handling of the takeover? We can point fingers all day at who in the current setup might be the problem but we all know that, under Tuchel, they had the makings of a squad that was going places, even with all the extra bloat, twelfty dozen players out on loan and the bruises still healing from having that Russian amputated/owner transplant.

Cleaning house can sometimes work but, in this instance, it really didn't.

Boehlyboehlyboehly... hah! Still fun to say.
