It's due to the way they have amortised deals. They have already spent a huge chunk of that 120 mil you say they can afford to spend if not all of it.

People keep saying how they spent a billion pound in a year when they actually haven't done anything of the sort. What they did was spend a billion over the next 5-6-7 years. Meaning they'll have to come up with sizable revenue every year to offset that against PSR. Obviously that number will depreciate over time but with every purchase on top it will rise again.

Yeah I understand that I'm just saying they can afford a 120 million loss next year, but that is including the amortization expense of the players they've signed. Note that I didn't say that they can afford to spend 120 million on players because I don't know what they can afford on that front.

Confirmation from Matt Law in today's Daily Telegraph that CFC sees its salvation as being in the hands of the Saudis this summer. (For those who can't access the article because of the paywall, a couple of weeks ago Todd B apparently met with the Saudi sports minister and the technical director of the Saudi League to sound them out about which Chelsea players they want to buy this summer.) https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...hly-chelsea-saudi-summit-summer-player-sales/

Yeah, well you can't just trade them off to wherever you like as you can with American sporting franchises. I genuinely can't see any of the players that will actually make a difference being up for a move to Saudi tbh. I'm sure he could shift a couple of the old heads being interested in a final pay day though, and that'll at least get them off the pay roll.

Selling players at the end of their careers to Saudi is one thing getting the likes of Gallagher to go is another. Also from the Saudi point of view they won’t want another Hendo situation.

The article states that the home grown group will not be offered to Saudi, mainly because none of them want to go there I would think.

So not going to help with the ones they really need to shift.

I just don't think 30m is current market value for Lewis Hall and its just the buyers and sellers are just pals
I think you may need to take another look at it. The 30mil headline is far from representative of what the deal actually is.

This article explains better. They've only paid £4m, £24m might be paid.

The crucial bit is that even if they do pay it will be in next season's calc not this, so essentially still £100m adrift.

They need pure profit though and I can't see any of their high value players going there. As you say, they can maybe bin some wages but that's about it. If they come up with any dodgy looking deals it will surely be under the microscope.
