I would think that Chelsea are the antithesis of a hipster club?

i.e:

"A hipster club is usually:
  • Good youth policy (granted they have that although achieved by offering obscene wages/benefits to young players/family).
  • Being an obscure choice, not necessarily the biggest or most successful team. (Trophies aren't where it's at.)
  • Playing "attractive," fluid football. The ball rarely leaves the ground
  • Have an anti-establishment history to them or roots with left-wing politics. (Because nothing says "anarchist" like a sports club that play every year, without fail, in a league structure that has prizes and points awarded in accordance with performance)
  • They don't play in the Premier League. (The most watched league in the world, doesn't look good in thick-rimmed spectacles)"

The cfc hipster fans I know don’t match the above.

they are bearded / bald , garlic , cinnamon and cum infused micro brewery drinking, jeans turned up, camper van owning, kids called cactus, thinking they know it all tossers.

they may well support another smaller club (Hampton and Dick town) as they want to give back to the community and it’s a great day out for the aforementioned cactus who they can’t take to the bridge. They also do a fantastic organic beef stroganoff with a mountain goat cum jus ?

This Twitter thread is pretty enlightening on the situation. Given their reasoning for sacking him, Potter does seem like the obvious one for them to push for to signify the start of a new era.

So signing Tuchel players and sacking him are part of the strategic change. ?

I'll feel a bit gutted if he goes there. I was hoping he'd come to us once Conte goes.

I think he's a superb manager.

Brighton fans must feel totally deflated. Losing Bissouma, then Cucurella and now Potter. Almost like whats the point mentality must be kicking in.

Happy that the vile club acted so stupidly and sack Tuchel so soon. Obviously there's unrest behind the scenes from the way he couldn't keep his cool so many times recently. What a joke of a club. Seemed to me Boehly want to show the world he's better than Roman. I hope he fails spectacularly.

Potter's got a good thing going at Brighton, I hope he tells Chelsea where to go. Just because a release clause might be met, he still has to want to move and by all accounts he's not motivated by money, which is guaranteed to be the carrot Chelsea will dangle in front of him.

Simeone is struggling a tiny bit isn’t he? Might be a possibility. I think Potter is most likely but you never know, they might want a ‘big’ name.

Scott Parker is free :D

I don't understand the mentality of people thinking Potter should not take the job if its offered

Any manager with ambition would want a top job, like Chelsea. Every singe job at a big club comes with immense pressure to produce - Chelsea are not unique in that regard.

If you have ambitions, of course you back yourself to be successful.

The top-end expectations for a club like Brighton are to reach a Europa League spot every once in a while. The top-end expectation at Chelsea is to win the league, and to win Champion's League. If you want to test yourself at the top - there is no question that you take the Chelsea job.

If you are satisfied with being back in the pack - then, honestly, you will never be the right candidate for a top job.

Potter can join chelscum for all I care. But no idea why some are afraid he can bring them to new height with his set up and coaching. Managing star players at top clubs has an added layer of difficulty, even more so now he has Boehly to deal with. Sometimes a PR champion may succeed at such egoistic club than intelligent and smart coaches.

That’s not my experience of Chelsea fans…..in fact you’re actually describing me quite accurately. :)

Tuchel probably got Boehly to agree he'd have the season, in fact they shook hands on it...

Simeone is such a Chelsea manager it's ridiculous, hope they avoid him. Sounds like Potter, in which case it's a 50/50 chance of success or failure. Either way, it'll be shortlived. He won't be there in 3 years time.

The last English manager to win the European cup was Joe Fagan for Liverpool in 1984.

Has any other Englishman even reached a semi final since?

You get the opportunity to compete, you take it.

all that makes sense but what about timing? Whether professional or perhaps even personal, he might prefer to wait for a similar opportunity at some point in the future.

To everybody that's losing their shit because they viewed Potter as the ideal replacement when Conte eventually leaves you need to relax. I thought Potter was the perfect replacement for Conte too but it's not like he was the only option.

We're not the same club we were a decade ago and will have no problem attracting any top manager. Nagelsmann will more than likely be done at Bayern around the same time Conte leaves here. If not Nagelsmann there will be other attractive options.
