It's not intentional, but had it not hit his hand it doesn't go in, so I don't see how it should be given?

Because the laws of the game say there has to be intent.

I don't think he meant to do it but I can see why the ref didn't allow the goal.

If that happened to us I wouldn't be happy.

But it happened to Liverpool :)

Intent is interpreted in the way your body is positioned rather than actually meaning to score a goal with your hand. Defenders are told to keep their arms at their sides in the box, why shouldn't the same rules apply to strikers too

A defender that has the arm away from the body in the penalty area isn't trying to handle the ball either, but it's still a foul. The arm was away from the body, he handled the ball, and a goal was scored. It has to be a foul.

From thefa.com

HANDLING THE BALL

Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with the hand or arm.

The following must be considered:
  • the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
  • the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
  • the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an offence
  • touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.) is an offence
  • hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc.) is an offence

We have all seen "those" kinds of goal given. But I think even with VAR, it's not a goal, the ball wasn't going into the net till it made contact with the arm. If he pulled his arm away, the ball wasn't going in.

Good spot by the ref thou...

Wankers.

No goal should be allowed if it is scored after hand-ball contact.

This will turn the game into more of a farce than it already is at times. Let's all have a debate about intent ref... Give me a break...

Can't believe the amount of posters on Rawk who are totally convinced that the referees are corrupt and there's an active conspiracy to stop them winning the league.
It's just embarrassing.

If anyone considers that a legitimate goal, they're daft. No matter of the interpretation. Had his arm been close to his body, then fine. Waving his arm around like that though..
