If this is the difference between signing a Mane or a Salah and GKN or an N'jie, maybe we should start.
We never will do business like that with the current ownership when and if they sell up it will be different until then we put up or shut up is the answer mate.

Tbh karius was pretty good in PL after made No 1 he didn’t do much wrong. Saw a stat of mistakes leading to shots and karius was bottom on 0. Obviously the CL has sunk him. However but for 2 crazy mistakes( concussed or not who knows) he’d probably have been No 1 this season.

As a very rough calculation that is now around the £500m mark that Klopp has spent in less than 3 years plus who knows how much extra in wages and agents fees, surely has to be massive pressure on him now to win the PL.

The more I think about half a billion on football players-the modern game really is obscene now isn’t it

Come on... Liverpool had flops like GKN an Njie that were even more expensive. They had miserable transfer windows and spent a lot of money on utter crap

Fabio Borini, Lazar Markovic, Iago Aspas , Rickie Lambert, Benteke, Grujic, Origi never really worked out for them

I mean they spent over 30m on Stuart Downing and Charlie f**in Adam and 40m on Andy Carroll not so long ago

Their transfer dealings were shit up until 2 seasons ago ... where they bought Mane (which we should have gone for - i agree) and took a punt on Salah that already failed at chavs.

We did briliant business: Lloris, Eriksen, Dele, Vertonghen, Toby, Tripps, Dier, Wanyama all for more than reasonable fees

Every team have their flops - but i think most teams would wish they had gone for some of our players at that fees
While Liverpool just throwing money at teams like Saints to get the player they want - which leads to even more inflated prices
All those signings were made under the previous regime under a 'different' committee

Whilst a lot of our business was done under a previous regime. Even Trippier, Wanyama and Toby were done under a different scouting regime

comments from Klopp:
"...Nations League to make it more important – then all these players who played at the World Cup have to go there again [in September]. I don’t understand that 100%. We had four players in the semis which is OK, we can deal with that. Tottenham had nine players in the semis. I have no clue how they will do it. "
Decent to recognize the challenge facing Poch and our team

No-one can compete with Liverpool either on or off the pitch. Surely they are destined to win every game they play at least 10-0 forever. So I can see only one option: We must close down Tottenham Hotspur and every other football club in the world and just declare that Liverpool have won football forever more. It will save time in the long run.

Perhaps once you lot have finished changing your nappies, you can start a petition.

£67m for a goalkeeper isn't very high in the current market

Like any market its all about supply and demand, the demand for goalkeepers that are at that top level is high with the supply being low due to the fact the top goalkeepers rarely ever leave their clubs

Also he is under 25, meaning he has ten years to play at the top level

Goalkeepers arent like a outfield player where their value to their team starts to decrease once they hit 30. At 30 he still can move on to a big club and for a decent fee(it wouldn't be as high as this one as he would have one contract left in him)

its almost double the previous record. I think its a bad decision. Yes their keeper had a howler in the CL finals but that happens. Llloris did the same thing in the WC final but did it with a 3 goal lead. They could have upgraded on their current keeper for far less.

When their accounts are published and it shows how much they are paying in agents fee's to get these deals done, you'll understand why we don't.

Sorry i should have been clear..... i meant by doing what they do is doing the business early and identify and sign their players up and not last minute like we've done in recent times. Not spend ridiculous sums (although it wont look it come the end if next season i suspect)

I would have liked to see 2-3 real quality who increase the squad quality or starting 11in already and then in the closing stages find the odd bargain that's a "bonus buy"over and above the early business.. Like the special we got with Vdv all those yrs ago.

Yeah bu the only reason they are able to do these deals early is by greasing the wheels(over paying agents fee's and wages).

Maybe that's why your disappointment level is so high as you had expectations of big things which as yet have not materialised, like I said I never had high expectations of big things during the transfer window and still don't.
Sure we will do business as i trust the club to do that but it will likely be the championship player plus one more and that's us probably done, yes we all as fans, players, manager and chairman want to win trophies but will we, again probably unlikely for some time but cementing another top four spot is the summit of our ambition at this moment in time.

I dont think its disappointment on the expectation of big signings or spending big... Its more about a coherent strategy to identify squad shortcomings, then get the reinforcements in for preseason.

Why would agents fees differ at the beginning of the transfer window vs the end of a window? I know you've gone to great lengths to explain this in the discussion thread in the past w.r.t players fees etc. If this crosses the questioning ITK then i understand if you do not reply.

Because if you pay them more things get done faster/easier. It's not like they are on a set amount or a fixed % of the transfer.

It's weird in the first place agents get a piece of the fee from the buying club. Agents should get a percent of the salary of their client.

Agree they are determined to give city and Utd a real challenge you can't blame or criticise what they are prepared to spend in order to be successful.
I don't doubt that our club identifys players early the frustration occurs with many fans over the dragged out sagas similar to the scenario we see with trying to bring in a championship player in grealish all because we are trying to drive the price down.
The problem is that after the last season finished there was ITK stating that there would be a big spend up etc, but instead of taking it at face value like I and many others did some fans are still expecting that to happen with a few coming in.
Realistically how many will come in 1/2 Maybe 3 probably won't see anything until the last week which is cutting it fine but we have to trust the club it what it does.

I think part of the issue here is that we read the ITK thread so we're all aware of how long these deals take at Tottenham. None of us are looking at the Liverpool ITK threads so when a deal does happen for them it looks like they've sorted it out really quickly when it could have taken almost as long as some of our deals. Look at the Alisson deal - everyone's saying they've sorted that out quickly, but they've been linked with him for months.

Nice to hear those comments. It's definitely going to be a challenge for us.

To remind myself that I am of Sane mind.

...not forgetting the thread title mentioned 'laugh'...thought there might have been a bit of light hearted humour available.

Alas...my bad. Sorry...I'll feck off now. (y)
Sane, now there's a cracking player we should've signed if we had any ambition.
