Hart was an excellent keeper, his form's just gone off a cliff in recent years.

Hart reminds me of Ian Walker. 1 minute your wondering how the fuck did he save that, to the next minute wondering how the fuck didn't he save that.

great shot stopper from close range, and reaction saves from a header from a set piece. the worrying thing is you hope the player doesn't hit the target from long range shots, or from a free kick just outside the area

It's because he used to brylcream his hair with goalie gloves on rather than doing it before..

Heavily linked to Boateng today too. Bullshit or not, it would seem like they're prepared to go big this summer.

Same could be said of Robinson (great at stopping any shot that wasn't from 30+ yards out. Terrible footwork), Gomes and sometimes even our own Hugo. Life of a keeper I suppose.

Fair play to them. Despite all the jokes about them last season and earlier in this season, they're not all that far away from being the second best team in the Premiership so maybe the owners are doubling down to try and get a title win. First 11-wise if they can get another top quality CB to play with VVD and a top GK then they'd be a real force to be reckoned with IMO. And they've already got some depth for the attackers on their way by the sounds of it.

I think that both they and us are better than United, even though it was the latter who finished second in the league. There's really not very much between the three teams though.

At the moment I agree with you but I think attacking-wise if they get some depth (which they're already doing) then they'll have a stronger attacking 3/4 than either us or Utd and if they can get a second top CB and a GK they'll have sorted out their defensive issues and IMO that would make them better, on paper at least, than both us and Utd. Obviously that's all assuming that neither us or Utd strengthen, which is clearly not going to be the case, but hypothetically at least I can see Liverpool being a real force next year.

… but in Robbo's case, I think we now know that this was down to chronic back problems that eventually required surgery.

I would add to this, it's not just about pure best first 11 or individual players, what Liverpool have done really well lately is buy players that fit the coaches very specific ethos, and that compliment what they already have. Bare in mind they also lost Coutinho halfway through the season and had Lallana out nearly all season. I can't imagine we'd have finished in the top4 if we'd lost Eriksen in January.

I'm not saying all is doom with us and wonder bread for Liverpool, and as great a signing as Salah has proved to be this season, that was a massive stroke of luck that he produced that kind of season, because for all the abilities he'd shown previously, a 40 odd goal season, especially at this level, had never looked on the cards previously (15 goals in all comps the previous year), and as clever a bit of scouting/analysis etc that signing was, even they couldn't predicted he'd produce that kind of season.

But that's where good recruiting has paid a dividend, his style and skill set suited Klopp's team and team mates, and they suited him. It elevated a potentially good signing into a great one.

This is what Ive criticised many times about Pochetino and some of our signings recently. We actually had players in academy that suited the team better than players we've gone out and bought. And it seemed like we got blown away by Liverpool two seasons ago and the season before that and since, Poch has been signing (or trying to sign) these quick legged players, but completely ignoring that for that to work he needs to play a high tempo press and transition midfield (and even better a 433) that needs to suffocate, win and get the ball to these quick explosive players quickly so they run at isolated defenders, then he plays a pair of plodders and two or three forwards (like Alli and Son), all of whom (Dier, Alli, Son, Sissoko, Dembele) are shit at pressing generally, and certainly can't keep up a coherent hard press for longer than 5 minutes. As a result we find ourselves playing that possession football, compressing the games into the final third, where there's no room for legs to unwind anyway.

The closest we got to getting anything like this was when, almost by accident (because he was treating the games as experimental almost) in the CL, he played various CM3's with Winks, Eriksen, Alli (and Sissoko) in various combos (including the Real game with Dier anchoring Eriksen and Winks).
