Announcement in the next 10 minutes apparently. Typical KUMB, half want Bilic, half thinks he's a waste of space, while the other half want Sam back. (I know there's 3 halves, but it is west ham were talking about !!)

Love the quotes. I think i misread the bolded word in the second paragraph :)

"I'm really glad to be back with West Ham United," said Slaven Bilic, who succeeds Sam Allardyce. "It's a big challenge and you are competing with the best and what better club to do it with than West Ham.

"I remember West Ham as a special club. I love these kinds of special clubs. It's not about the size - West Ham is big club - there is something special about them - they are a cult club."

"It is a great place to play and I felt like I was at home. It is a big privilege and a big responsibility to now be manager and I hope that I will prove it to the board, players and fans."

Is it just me or has Bilic's CV been a bit shit since Croatia?

He took Lokomotiv to their worst ever finish and was sacked, and hasn't exactly pulled up many trees at Besiktas either.

That obviously doesn't mean he won't do well for Wet Sham, but I'm surprised that they seemed so keen on him.

I like Bilic, he seems a bit of a maverick. He also brings back memories of when Croatia were my, and most Spurs fans, second international team. Hope he takes them down to the Conference, though, obviously.

All about the club connection, innit.

Bilic called them a cult club and to be honest he's right. Irrationally high levels of blind faith, delusions of grandeur, in-breeding...they do indeed qualify as a cult.

The timing of this just seems weird to me...they're taking on a new manager who has never managed in the league before, the season before they move to the Olympic Stadium.
If Bilic fails spectacularly we could end up with the glorious prospect of West Hams first game in the new stadium being introduced to the world at about half one on a Sunday morning by a bloke called Maneesh.

How can he be a club favourite, played less than 50 times and then pissed off to everton for more money........

I only remember him for falling over in the box when Laurent Blanc farted on him.

I did a bit of research on that actually. The deal between WHAM and Everton was done in the March for £3m more than WHAM had paid for him the year before, but he refused to leave WHAM until the season was over and they'd saved themselves from relegation,
Therefore cult status.

EDIT WITH QUOTE:

In March 1997 Everton manager Joe Royle brokered a £4.5M move, with Bilić claiming he had a debt of loyalty to West Ham to stay with the club until the end of the season to ensure they were not relegated.[10]West Ham finished in 14th place, two points above the relegation places.[11]

If I was a West Ham fan I'd be very underwhelmed with Bilic. A good Euro 2008 with an, imo, good Croatia team, before failing to qualify for the world cup with an absolutely great team in 2010. Euro 2012 as expected before having a mare in Russia and finishing very much as expected behind Fenerbache and Galatasaray twice in Turkey. I find his record distinctively average, and coupled with the fact he's not been close to managing in such a competitive environment as the Premier League, I'd be worried if he was my team's new manager.

Luckily I'm not a West Ham fan, so I'm enjoying this. I don't see any reason to expect he'll do a much better job than fat Sam.
