Let's All Laugh At... Let's all wonder what's going on at United?

In Eric's case, the police decided that there was no need to pursue a prosecution. It was the suits at the FA that made an issue of his behaviour and led to his 4 match ban.

Let's see what excuses the FA trot out when they inevitably decide not to take any action against Maguire....

(My expectation is that, at most, he'll receive a "strongly-worded reminder" about his future behaviour.)

Yeh, this is not a footballing issue. Dier's was because it was on the field, and the FA would argue they have an obligation to maintain the safety of the fans and players. This case could be taken to put the game in disrepute, as has been done by the FA for racism homophobia etc. But there is a case to say that this is substantially different. More like Gerrard's punch up in a bar, various drink driving offences, quarantine breaking players etc. Even Ched Evans wasn't charged by the FA.

The match was over. (The altercation took place after Spurs had just lost on penalties.)

As has been mentioned, it was just after a match but still during a fixture, in a stadium, involving a player in full kit and a paying spectator. There isn't FA jurisdiction here as Maguire has not 'brought the game into disrepute' or anything.

I could use the exact same argument for Alli's suspension.

He posted casual racism on a social media (from memory, on club duty). There is a specific rule for that in the FA guidance on how members behave on social media.
There isn't one concerning what they do in their 'private' lives on holiday.

I'm baffled as to why people are stretching so much for this, other than because it's a rival team.

I'm not excusing Alli, but I thought it was in a group chat and a "friend" posted it on social media?

You're right, Hugo didn't get a ban after his drink driving.

It was on Snapchat, so regardless of the visibility it would still be classified as 'Social Media'. I think the 'friend' leaked it to the media, rather than onto a site.

It's the same as other footballers who I think have been fined/whatever for being abusive in private DMs.

I feel a very little bit of sympathy for ballers. They will always attract the unwanted attentions off dickheads in the streets ready to rile them up. Must take lots of Self control to avoid getting in trouble. That’s why these photos of the lads on yachts With their mates is in some way a relief that they are avoiding the trouble hotspots.
