With zero investment in the team I don't expect us to challenge the top 4 this season. I was never suggesting that we would win the title. I was suggesting that to compete we needed to invest. We will be lucky to get 5th this season based on the lack of investment.
I’d like to see deals done in Jan, even if the players don’t join up until pre season. We’ll definitely need to have a few players starting to look over the shoulders by that point and it gives them time to try and up their game.I wouldn't do much in Jan, unless we have serious injuries. I'd want planning for next summer. Identify key targets, and wine and dine them and their agents. If we can shift Janssen, Nkoudou, and presumably Rose, we'll also have Vorm, Llorente and Dembele out of contract too. That's potentially 6 squad spots opened up, and 5 non-HG. That gives us a lot more room to bring players in next year.

Absolute pleasure, mate! It's refreshing to engage in a reasoned debate with someone from the other side of the Levy "divide" without being accused of "bed wetting" or "throwing toys out of prams" and other patronising unproductive garbage. Take care mate!I am clearly a fan of levy. You are seemingly not. That’s fine - I respect your well-expressed views and wouldn’t it be boring if we all agreed ...
As it happens I agree with pretty much everything you say in this post.
I am suspicious of the ability of itk to get us closer to the “truth” - whatever that means in the crazy word of football politics ?
I would also clarify that the wedge that many on this forum seek to drive between poch and levy exists only on this forum. As you say, I doubt they care much at all about what we say on here !! I did not want to imply that we are causing them to drift apart !!
Thanks for engaging in an intelligent manner !
That argument assumes that new signings automatically make every team better every year. If that were the case, football would be in some sort of nirvana/utopia as all teams reach perfection. It's just not true. New signings can lose form and confidence in new surroundings, other players lose form. It's all a crap-shoot.
If we can avoid injuries in midfield, and a couple of younger players can contribute, we can still do very well.
Forget how much everyone spent our squad is still every bit as valuable as those around us except maybe City. We all wanted to strengthen this window, but that doesn't take away the fact we already have a very good squad here. It's every bit as good as Yanited and Chelsea, we just aren't as match fit yet due to the WC.
I agree with the policy of now buying for the sake of it. If we can't get the ones we like, don't go for the cheaper option.
But I would've liked we had at least signed some young players to slowly bring into the team along with the academy players. Someone like Ben Brereton would've been a nice bet

Maybe. I think it is quite normal to try and bring through a few youth players at a time.
Trying to implement more becomes difficult as their game time is too diminshed.
We currently have Winks, Onomah, KWP, Foyth and Amos trying to get game time. Right now adding more youngsters who need game time is very difficult.
Not if they play in other positions. Those you mentioned play CB, RB and CM.
Right now we could do with a youth striker, a winger or a left back. Troy Parrott is too young (and I don't like KWP as a LB)
Levy and Enic out. Done a lot of good, won’t take us to the next level though.
But of course you'd never do that?! You like to suggest that "narrative bias" is exclusively the domain of anti-Levy posters; not the pro-Levy brigade. How very pious of you. Well how about this comment from Pochetinno: "We cannot think we are the cleverest people in the world winning trophies spending small money". How does that accord with your narrative? You wouldn't "choose to disregard some of his words", surely?
And has it occurred to you that as an employee of the Club, Poch might be compelled to tow the Club's party line, to "read" from the Club's pre-prepared press release? To do anything but that would be a PR disaster. Is he really going to say, "Well my Chairman was the only "deal-broker" across 5 leagues and 98 clubs to fail to negotiate a SINGLE transfer, and now I've very little effective cover for key players that could be fucked after playing in a World Cup and having no pre-season"? Yeah you keep spinning the bullshit that Poch never really wanted money spent to improve the squad and it was always his intention to just promote the youth. That conveniently fits your narrative, doesn't it. Tu débarques, mon pote!
I think it depends on what we're judging them on, Darren. If we're judging them on their piss-poor performance in the transfer window, I reckon now is as good a time as any. Regarding transfers, wasn't it Grey Fox who said, in essence, something along the lines of, it's time for Levy & ENIC to shit or get off the pot? I don't see much evidence of shitting, do you mate? The time to judge ENIC & Levy is once things settle down in our new stadium. Any sooner and it's not a fair reflection of their capabilities to take us to the next level

Haha!! Thanks mate, I really appreciate your posts too Piedpiper. Just wish we had got it wrong and Levy had played a blinder. But alas no mate. A lot of us saw this shit-show coming, and were roundly derided for voicing our concerns. Take care mate!F#ck you good. Oh i agree btw
