Tottenham's hierarchy will not look to sign Carlos Vinicius permanently at the end of the season despite the striker's nine-goal return this season.

He isn't worth £38m that's for sure. He hasn't done a great deal wrong but we have better use for those funds.

Parrot and Scarlett another year older
Parrot just turned 19 and hasn't done anything yet to suggest he's ready to lead the line for spurs, and Scarlett whose still 16 for another week or so would need to have a Michael Owen/Wayne Rooney type full debut season to justify not buying a replacement striker.

Does this mean you want to pay the 38 million ?
I'm sure we could knock 5m or so off and I'd be happy with that. The reality is spurs don't seem to want to pay the going rate for a backup striker that will spend the bulk of the time on the bench due to how good kane is, but also needs to be good enough to meet our ambitions.
Championship strkers like Ollie Watkins cost 33m so I'm not sure what quality of striker people are expecting to get if we're only looking to spend 15m.

It's a good point.

If we are going to spend £30m+ then we are likely to either want top quality on a shortish deal or buy a player that we have high hopes for.

I don't think Vinicius comes into either category.

More likely to get a backup striker on loan every season like this deal.
That might not be a bad idea actually. Go for a young, hungry type to be almost like an apprentice to Kane. If they make it, we can then sign them permanently and job's done, if not, they go back. And then if, in the meantime, one of our prospects takes a step up, we then have that resource available.

Either way, £38 million is too much for Vinicius.

So we go back to having one striker who will inevitably pick up another long term injury .
Just because we don’t buy Vinicius doesn’t mean we cannot buy anybody else. He is worth nowhere near £38 million and we can get much more quality for that amount of money. If they do not hugely reduce the price we move on.

Would rather sign someone like Ivan Toney from Brentford; English, just turned 25 and has scored 27 goals and provided 9 assists so far this season.

As @Dougal says, another loan deal is most likely.
And ideally it’ll be an experienced striker not looking to play too regularly but can help Scarlett &/or Parrott.

Who can we get with much more quality than vinicius for 38m that's prepared to sit on the bench?

Ollie Watkins who scored 25 goals in his last season for Brentford went for 33m. Are you happy to pay that for Ivan toney.

I wonder if there's a Cavani type deal that we could do.

Pay out more on the wages but get a quality player on a short term deal giving an opening to one of our young strikers to get up to level and take the spot.

The question is whether the 38 million is money well spent on someone who sits on his arse for 95% of the time during matches ? Wouldn’t that amount of money be better spent on helping to sort out our defence ? With the impact of Coronavirus 38 million is far more than most clubs in the PL are going to be spending this summer In total.
