None of those 4 have become huge successes though yet

Bentaleb is not getting a look in under Poch, Mason is showing early promise but it is just that atm, Kane is a bit part player with potential and Townsend is too dumb to be a top class footballer

Whereas Chambers and Shaw and Ox and Walcott and Bale are proven premiership performers
Bentaleb and Townsend are just as proven in the PL as Shaw and Chambers. You are also forgetting that all the Southampton players have played for managers (and/or situations where they had to) who are willing to give youth a chance, where as we have only had managers willing to give youth a chance since last December.

We gave youth a chance because of the failure of our big money signings otherwise Kane, Mason and Bentaleb would probably be moved on already.

Commoli was on the radio this morning saying we haven't got a scouting network and are a running joke amongst the scouting community 'have you seen a spurs scout?'

Shocking really, no wonder we're in the mess we are now, at least Broomfield's back.

Seems to me that we've been scouting contracts rather than players' abilities

Bloomfield came back to us in march but we are still getting players in like Ben Davis, it's not very imaginative.

And Fazio & Stambouli. Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with trying to sign proven Premiership players. I also find it quite astounding how people still seem to have in their head that English Managers/Scouts concentrate on British signings. It's been proven false so many times now.

For those that are interested here is an interesting article about Ian Broomfield from 2004, when he was Aston Villa's chief scout. Gives a bit of an insight into exactly what can be involved signing players.

Is it true that Southampton " head of recruitment" has handed in his notice? THFC bound surely?

If this is true what does that mean for Broomfield and Baldini? Broomfield has always been seen as great, while Baldini having contacts all over the world?

Baldini out would be my guess. Broomfield only just returned so will be going nowhere. We need to develop home grown players now and bring in one or two premier league proven players, perhaps this guy is being brought in for that. Baldini helped attract some of the supposed best players in Europe, but that approach has failed us. Back to basics now and looking at Southampton they've done pretty well at that.
it's also sign of support towards Poch as well as a helping hand should we go in for Rodriguez and Schneiderlan again.

If they are good enough and cheap enough then fine but we have a guy here who was was swapped for someone worth 8 to 10 million pounds and he can't get a first team place while we are floundering around trying to buy another striker.

I wonder if the levy haters will see this for what it is: levy doing something proactive with a view to taking the club forward while simultaneously supporting the manager and his needs.

No, they'll probably just say 'the bastard bald **** is still trying to find ways to do things cheaply'.

If there is any truth in the following, Commoli was on the radio this morning saying we haven't got a scouting network and are a running joke amongst the scouting community 'have you seen a spurs scout?' , Levy should be shot .

I've always found we seem to be after the better known/more expensive players and have frequently complained we never scout a diamond in the rough like many Prem teams.....a motivated unknown from an unusual team type diamond I mean . It makes entire sense to me that there is some truth in the Commoli quote looking at our signings .

Suicidal for a club with our MO , disastrous organisation . Nice that Levy is looking at this now ,even if 14 years late , but fuck .

We aren't even at Xmas yet so I won't write him off yet and to be fair most Spurs fans felt we needed a left back. What I will say is that I don't know who is doing the transfer strategy at Spurs because I don't think he is the sort of player that suits Poch's system.

Thing is not many top six clubs do. The rough diamonds procured by mid table teams either seem to stay with mid table teams or flounder at larger clubs and end up back at mid table teams.

It could be argued that over the last few seasons we have signed a few players that would be regarded as rough diamonds if other teams had signed them. Kyle Walker being a prime example.

Sounds like Broomfield and Mitchell could be putting us in the right direction. Loved that video posted by @thinktank that detailed his role as well as his team.

I see it as someone who is panicking because the coach he appointed is failing badly.
If it was just about supporting the manager he would have recruited Mitchell in the summer.

So from what i understand

Mitchell will head analysis of our players from youth all the way up to senior as well as scouting with his impressive array of computers/tech.

Broomfield will take care of actual/physical scouting . Maybe sending reports to Mitchell to further extrapolate on any given player or maybe Mitchell sends Broomfield info on a player and ask for a scout report to correlate info.

Baldini gets reports from Mitchell/Broomfield about players, checks in with Poch about findings and what he might need to improve on. Baldini lets Levy know that Poch/ Broomfield/ Mitchell had agreed and scouted said player and are in agreement that they should acquire said player. Levy does the right thing and buys a different player who happens to be cheaper?
