Still think the Goons are more likely if Wenger is under pressure, they are in desperate need for a player like him, even more than us.

That's certainly possible, yeah. Just hope Wenger is in one of his stubborn moods come January.

I wouldn't rule United out either.

Don't to it to yourself, they won't sell for a penny less than £27m, they don't have to, Is he really going to agitate for a move when they are far more involved in the CL race than us? Not happening, period.

Well its worth discussing. I'm not saying its likely, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely.

And if we offer more in wages anything is possible regarding a player's state of mind.

Well no, we need people who'll pull the team together and lead, not people whose main focus is always themselves...

If you watch him play, the first part is excatly what he is and the second part is exactly what he isn't.

What he wants for his career is something different to what he produces on the pitch, which I think is an exceptional quality, one that Modric and Berbatov certainly didn't have when they went on strike.

Think the goons need 2 new CH's and a striker who'll bag 25+ goals (sound familiar?). I think they are well stocked in midfield (again familiar?) but they have better quality there. Our need for MS is greater.

I think they need a ball playing holding midfielder too, we still won't get MS if they don't want him.

Does anyone know when Schneiderlins contract is due to expire?

I think we will probably sign him eventually but don't see it being in Jan. Especially if his contract situation means we can get him cheaper in June...

Good, I hope this is real and hope we get him. This is the guy very much proving that even in the modern game it isn't about time or making good players gel, it's just about making the smart buys for positions of need.

Should've done this earlier, and maybe we've had pulled the trigger on Mane instead of letting him slip for the sake of buying some player who may be healthy as of January and who worked with a squad and manner of play entirely different from ours.

Can't believe the article on Southamptons recruitment has been bypassed in favour of more desperate MS chat.

There was a very interesting section on the Football weekly pod yesterday regarding Soton and how, when Koeman arrived, several of his identified targets were already players the club had scouted.

I suspect that sort of harmony is rare.

Whilst on Southampton... just been told that there's been a huge setback with jay Rodriguez. Everything being kept low key at the min but from what I've heard he may have had a re rupture of his ACL . Terrible news both for us and for the lad. I may be wrong but the snippets I've heard suggest he is in a bad way. Will keep all informed if I hear anything else

Southampton have a vast catchment area for young talent which we don't. They were also helped in this area by the demise of Portsmouth. We compete with a whole host of London based clubs for available talent. Don't really see why Mitchell would be any more successful than our current set up in all honesty.

I truly hate to hear that for him if true, but I can't help but feel a tinge of relief that maybe we'll assess other (and better per our needs IMO) options.

Because he recruits for the first team, not the youth academy.

Quite possibly so, but that Mitchell fella alluded to assessing Koeman and matching him up with their philosophy, if we hired for example a coach after Harry who played 442/4411 with wingers etc and a proper DOF in place I would imagine a few targets would be the same.

I used a similar example of this in another thread yesterday - Swansea. They manage to deal with managerial upheaval and retain a 'house' style and consistency. Why can't we do that?
