I'm really disappointed he wasn't brought on instead of Defoe today. We were crying out for him.

I don't think Chadli deserves to keep his place ahead of Townsend tbh.
He wasn't the only new player that was a bit taken back by the first test from a top 4 side today. Paul'o was quiet all day and Chad was isolated a few times on the left and also tried to hard to do something when he had the ball.

He'll be fine once he beds in. Don't think he'll work best with rose though, so really hope we get a LB tomorrow.

Paulinho was quiet I agree, but if we're judging players and picking a team on performance then imo Townsend done a lot more than Chadli. So I'd give him a go on the left if Lamela comes in on the right. Depends how Avb wants us to play though. He may not want a left footer there so maybe it's between Chadli and Eriksen for the left.

I will bang the drum again for our wide forwards to switch and use their better foot, mix it up like Lennon and that welsh bloke used too, our full backs can't be relied upon to put a decent ball into Soldado..

Based on Thursdays game, albeit against weaker opposition Holtby should have played today, i am convinced he would have been full of confidence, really would have bought a nice variety to the midfield..

If it's avb he'd go with chad on the left, as I think he likes a bit of bulk on the field. Wouldn't go with three 'light' players across the front three a la lamela eriksen townsy.

He'd maybe want chad on the left to pitch in defensively like he did today at times.

If that's the case then don't put him on the bench. I actually think AVB needs to man up a little in this department be bolder with his subs...it's a weakness of his.

Wow. You must be Alex Ferguson to be giving this sort of "its a weakness of his".

Defoe had a shot on target that couldve gone in. If it had everyone wouldve been singing AVBs praise for being bold with an all out attack.

Point is, sometimes strategies work. Sometimes they bomb. It doesn't mean it becomes a weakness.

He absolutely has to play as one of the central 3 because we just move the ball too slow. We had 60% of the possession yesterday but it was so laboured that Arsenal could absorb it quite easily and launch counters. Arsenal actually passed quite poorly yesterday but they could get Cazorla on the ball and he'd get it forward quickly to stretch us. If we dominate the middle and then move it so slowly Soldado is going to have a tough season. It's one or the other of Paulinho and Dembele and at the moment Dembele's form/fitness doesn't warrant a start.

My view was based on AVB's decisions over the whole of last season and he's continued in the same mindset. Don't need to be OWF, just need to be observant.

Sorry for jumping on this thread but a few people in the SC IRC channel were watching the Villa game together and were saying how those who were fed up with him should acknowledge that he's been excellent recently. He was really great against Villa, and he has been in other games recently, he's close to being player of the month. Sadly the BBC highlights managed to make Defoe look great and didn't mention Holtby's name once, despite creating 3 of the goals.

He ran the show against Villa and put in a great performance against Cardiff. When he came on his energy, movement and passing changed the game and livened us up and we were rewarded in a goal.

I always felt last year his performances would improve when we improvement the movement of those around him, something we have done this year. He is a top play maker who will push Eriksen all the way, getting the best out of him and can do the job if things need changed.

I just can't say it enough how excited I am about the quality of the players in depth in our squad. Good times to be a spurs fan no doubt!

Whats the SC IRC Channel?

Look at the top of this page, the last item is "chat room". You can also chat on any IRC client, the best option, we used geekshed.net and the channel is #sc ,loads of us chat during matches

Holtby is definitely worthy of a start.

I'd play him him in a 4231:
Soldado
Eriksen Holtby lamela
Paulinho Dembele
BUT, I'd be prepared to sub him if he's a bit absent or we're losing the midfield and need to change to 433. Sandro could come on and sure things up if it's not working:
Eriksen Soldado Lamela
Dembele Sandro Paulinho

HIS NAME IS LEWIS HOLTBY, HE'S NUMBER 14.

I JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH. I JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH.

An excellent performance from the bench this evening, am I the only one who thinks he should (especially whilst Eriksen is injured) be starting most matches, he can offer so much. The midfield can comfortably go from 4 2 3 1 to 4 1 4 1 and back again as play requires with him on the pitch
