Hamburg have sold Badelj to Fiorentina for 4 million euros. Possible they may have the money they need now, and this wouldn't be a loan. Even so, it certainly lends to the suggestion he would be going there.

Yes it is. But Hamburg is desperate, and were in a poor bargaining position. One day left in the window needed to make changes, very desperate after yesterday's result against a newly promoted side, and the player had one year left on his contract and wasn't likely to extend. So yes, you're absolutely right, Fiorentina got a damn fine deal if they intend to play him alongside Valero.

Between both he and the Skjelbred sales and alleviation of salaries, I think they may have enough to buy as long as Holtby were to accept a reduced salary. The question is, would Holtby be willing to move to a club permanently that is clearly in very real danger of relegation.

Good player but lacked the strength and legs to play deeper in midfield in this league, and isnt quite special enough to play no10. Wish him well.

Good player but somehow did not fit. It happens to the best of players and I wish him well

I guess this is permanent :(

The Badelj sale would lead credibility to that. But I'm still not sure, as they're not guaranteed to survive relegation by any stretch and I'm still not entirely convinced they'd have the money for both fee and salary without more assistance from their benefactor.

I remember his debut at Norwich.

Our coaching killed him.

Very unlucky experience here, indeed. He only managed to hit a stride once, and just as he did so the carpet was yanked out from under his feet with the AVB firing.

Not saying I approved of AVB, but it seemed Holtby did finally manage to find a niche in the midfield at that point.

I'm a bit indifferent tbh. This is 3 managers plus the Fulham boss who seemingly haven't rated him highly enough. I've always thought his uncontrollable workrate has counted against him a little, gets too carried away and not disciplined in his positioning. There's a player in there though just you don't know what's going on at training ground, and fact we're letting him go not likely for huge fee speaks volumes for me. Said it before though to lose Siggy and Holtby and not replace with upgrade makes no sense.
