It's a shame, seems another midfielder who is best in a three man 433 set up, same as Pauli and perhaps Dembele, weird that we never really played a 433 proper.

Yeah, I've never been sure as to why we never made this move either. My guess is it had something to do with the wingers not at all being used to it, but who knows.

Dont think hes a number 10. But I'd play him over bentelab everyday of the week personally.

Shame but I'm glad he's off to get his career back on track. No point rotting

Harry sort of player, could do well in rather free system that relies on more on players themselves. But when it comes to coaches who are somewhat more strict to their system, he falls out of equation as he is rather reckless and undisciplined.

No idea as to the validity of this guy, but the Hamburg fans seem to regard him as legit:

@ Scholle0003: #HSV: #Holtby is already in Hamburg. After the Med-check on Monday he signs - one year on loan. HSV also has an option to purchase

It does make the most sense.

Great attitude but not quite good enough. That's 3 managers in the prem that agree now
Four actually, given his loan spell at Fulham.

We've never given him enough game time to really develop his distribution, which was his weakness coming into the club. Would excel in a narrow 3 behind the striker with a slight license to roam, but I don't think that's a formation that works a lot of the time. He needed to become a more dynamic number 10 to be played in that area at this level, and needed to become more defensively aware to be a number 8 (or is it 6?).

we need to let him go but for me he'll always have that amazing cameo performance away to Villa in the cup a couple of years ago

Very unlucky experience here, indeed. He only managed to hit a stride once, and just as he did so the carpet was yanked out from under his feet with the AVB hiring.

Not saying I approved of AVB, but it seemed Holtby did finally manage to find a niche in the midfield at that point.

Hmm, i remember AVB was already with Spurs when Holtby came in Jan 2013......or you meant to say TS?

reckon he meant AVB firing, instead of hiring. And I agree with him, Holtby had played well as a nr. 10 in the games prior to the Liverpool game at WHL.
