Lloris: It doesn’t matter who the manager is … the players have to feel the responsibility

Jose made a point of saying he's not telling them to play this way, Nuno said the same, as has Conte and now Stellini. Even Kane has on more than one occasion said it's not the managers asking them to drop deeper and deeper like they do. I've been banging this drum for a long long time but it's the players not trusting the back line, so they instead gravitate towards it to help out, but what then happens is the whole team end up there and they can't get out.
They aren’t being asked to play that way, but they aren’t being coached effectively enough to not play that way. They are semi competent footballers at a level decent enough to be able to do more than they are. The players are responsible but I’m sick of managers like conte and mourinho only choosing to own their successes. Potter isn’t saying oh well the Brighton boys actually listened and look at what I achieved there….

Regardless what the managers say if it is happening every time then I would have thought a good coach could have changed it. We are not the only team that play across the defense City do it regularly but they are able to switch if needed with quick slick passing and then away down the pitch. I accept they have excellent quality in their back line but I would like to see our coach, whoever he may be, implement a different system.

City also play with 3 in midfield which gives more options to pass out from the back and get up the pitch. It also provides an extra shield in front of the CBs. Playing a pivot every single game has contributed hugely to so many of our problems, and the main reason we do it is so we can have Son faffing around up front with little or no effect. As you say, a good coach would change it.

This is because they had 3 managers trying to teach them rigid tactics and 'prudent' responses for all scenarios rather than coaching them to pass and move to a very high, *instinctive*, standard and then build tactics/strategy/game management on top

You can almost see the agonised computations on our players' faces. I could try a 1-2 here but there's a 22% chance of failure whereas if I pass back or sideways there is a 92% chance of success. OK better go safe

We need somebody like Poch to come back in, sweep away all this negativity and absolutely transform our mentality back into a passing side

I know it's been a tough and frustrating season but that is football sometimes I'm not going to start to turn on our own players especially good servants like Hugo our best keeper since Jennings.
