The thing is, I'm not actually saying that the Carling Cup win was shit and I'm certainly well chuffed that we won a cup, it was certainly needed and I hope we move onto better things.

I am not misunderstanding the point of the post, I completely agree that its a good thing, and whilst we are still developing our team to challenge, its completely good to have a few trophies on the way.

But saying that, we should now be challening for a champions league spot, 2 seasons finishing 5th and now a cup, yet we are still in the bottom half of the table.

Yes I know its been a weird season for us, and I expect us to be much better next year, although I don't think we will be challenging for that next year either, as we will need time for the team to bed in, and get used to the league (new players etc).

I would lvoe to see us win a domestic cup and the uefa cup with a strong league place.. that would be huge improvement for me, and increase outr profile at the same time.

No I'm not happy for mediocrity but I'll take what comes our way. Football is about winning trophies. At the begining of the season there are three domestic trophies up for grabs, to win at least one of them is what we want to do. There are 20 teams wanting the top four spot. I think that winning the Carling cup and qualifying for the UEFA cup is better than finishing 5th and winning nothing. The reward is the same.

Winning the FA cup is probably bigger than winning the Carling cup, but this year who would have the bigger win? Us beating Chelsea or Portsmouth beating Cardiff?

Yes I'd love to see us play at the highest level with some top class players in our squad, but I'm not going to get depressed if it doesn't happen.

See I would take a carling cup win over a 5th league place, but I would trade the carling cup for a place in the champions league.

Of course, winning the cup and getting a top four would be better, of course, thats not being argued.

FA Cup is a better trophy to win, by far, and Im glad there are no 'big' teams left in, quite chocked really.

No argument here, so lets enjoy our current success and hopefully move on to bigger and better performances in the seasons to come! :hump: COYS

Now that's where I got angry, the first season, we should have finished 4th and tied up our CL chances yet we lost stupid games, as we always do. Too much was made about that game against Spam, yet we didn't see off Fulham, Sunderland etc. The second season we were just lucky. So after those two years of disappointment thank fuck this year we've actually got something to show off.

I don't think we're far away for challenging for the top spots but if we're going to do it, let's have a bit of silverware along the way as well.

In the long run:

no one remembers who came 2nd, 3rd or 4th and all the money is gone.

But

people in 20 years will still remember those that come 1st and win trophies.

It's

"My eyes have seen the glory of the Cups at White Hart Lane",

NOT

"My share price felt the money of 4th place in the Premier League".

great and all that, but its a bit thin really.

Personally i would not crow about it. Its things like that which make other clubs ridicule and laugh at us, and give us the "deluded" and "Small-time club" labels

Would have to agree. We do tend to fcous on the other lot too much, rather than just focusing on our own team.

Let's just agree that winning a trophy has brought us a 'successful' season and hope for even better next year, rather than comparing to anyone else. Because to be fair, they have plenty of ammunition to fire back on the slightly flimsy argument that we are more successful.
