Just out of curiosity, why would he be less likely than say Paulinho or Sandro?
The Home Office will usually only issue work permits for exceptional talents, one of the measures that they use is international appearances and as far as I'm aware he has no international caps. Paulinho has quite a lot and Sandro may have had a few when we signed him

He has 4 U-20 caps, which is their U-21's basically, and he's just been called up for the next 3 games (googled him). I think that would probably be enough to try for the 'exceptional talent' route. Never know though, he may have an Italian Grandmother or something.

@Zizouology: Man Utd want Lucas Silva? Tipped to feature for Brazil soon. Revelation of 2013 and arguably the biggest central-midfield prospect in Brazil

@Zizouology: Lucas Silva can act as B2B. Goes forward and score occasional screamers. But I see him as a player sitting deep and controlling in long-term

Anyone who plays FM will love this news. He's a fantastic prospect in the game.

Otherwise I don't know much about the kid, but I always like signing young South American talent as I find the success rate for those types of players to be fairly encouraging.

We should be all over this guy,the absolute real deal* exactly what we need.

In all seriousness, sounds like a potential alternative to MS, nice to see us casting our net wide.

*never seen him play

Very interesting, and a very valuable thing to know for any fan of the EPL. Thank you.

I have to admit I'm hesitant towards the notion of this if it's true after how highly rated Paulinho was as B2B midfielder in Brazil, but if it's true this boy can actually play the ball a bit from deep then I'm all for it. Paulinho is very good at some things, but driving the ball forward from deep is very much not a part of his game, and that's unfortunately a part of our collective game we have very much been missing the last two years.

Tim Vickery was just on the radio talking about Lucas Silva

Described him as a 'terrific player' and 'one of the best passing midfielders Brazil has produced in some years'.

He usually plays down the qualities of most players linked with Europeans moves, and even though he did say that the PL could be a step up too soon, he generally sounded very positive about this lad.

"...one of the best passing midfielders." + linked with Spurs after two years of entirely inept forward passing

Think I'm starting to O-face over here.
