Someone having a Porto flair on r/soccer reddit said they need money, so I choose to believe that he's joining us.
They need 5m for FFP. If they agree surely the likes of Liverpool will just swoop in for that price

He looks an incredible player but honestly, we're obsessed with the left side of the pitch. Son/Bergwijn/Gill, Reguilon/Sessegnon.

Granted Adama is right sided for the wingback spot but if we only have limited resources, then I'm just concerned on balance.

This is not to take away from the player himself, he looks fantastic and I'll be as excited as anybody but in terms of pure squad balance, you'd have some concerns wouldn't you. If this is who Conte wants then go for it but I'll be interested to see how it all comes together.

what's the thinking behind this? thought our priority positions were CM RWB and CF? this guy (although very good) is a left winger, a position we're already well stocked unless we're planning on selling bergwijn after all?
Opportunity to get a world class player.

Does Conte even see Bergwijn as a left winger though. Every time I’ve heard him speak about Stevie he says he sees him as a striker or 10. Son turns 30 this year as well so it wouldn’t be a bad area to look at. Plus I’m sure this guy would be comfortable as a striker in the 3-5-2 as well as playing off the left.

How long until we hear he doesn’t want to make a decision until end of the season ?

Tbh it could make sense as I'm fairly sure there were links to this guy knocking around in the summer.

Gil will be sent on loan somewhere. Reggie and Sess are wingbacks, not attackers. Bergwijn is right side/central.

Really not all that deep on the left.

Everyone I know who follows the Primeira very closely think he’s the best modern talent to ever play in the league (excl. Ronaldo and those further in the past obviously). Better than Bruno. Better than Joao Felix. Having seen him in the big games in the league and in the Copa, he is truly an world class level talent and player currently. Elite dribbling ability. He’ll pick up the ball and run forward no matter how many opponents are in his way. And succeed most of the time. He’s got immense flair and has a ton of party tricks in his bag. First touch and close control is top. Rapid pace. Has the vision and tries a lot of ambitious passes, which naturally leads to lost possession. But very ambitious final third progression a la fernandes. Very unselfish in final third. Hard worker of the ball. His ball striking has improved a ton the past 18 months, and he’s a long shot specialist. Think he needs to add some more variety to his finishing. Mostly power with laces. Sometimes struggles to generate curl when striking the ball. All in all, regardless of positional needs, this is one of the very best attacking talents in the world that should be completed at all costs if possible.

If there's anything in this then the timing does actually make sense.

For a long time everything has indicated we were targeting Vlahovic and presumably had forecast a lot of expenditure on that deal.

Now Vlahovic is off the table we move for the next on the list with that money perhaps?

Spending a massive amount of money on a player who’s position is the same as Son, when what we really need is a left footer to play from the right and replace Lucas?

Can definitely see this happening then.

Just don’t forget the initial excitement when we first heard of our bid/link. That way when this falls apart like a Spirit Airlines plane we will look back on it with the fondest of memory. This is really the true meaning of a Transfer Window.

that's fair i guess, maybe bergwijn's last few performances has meant we've put back up striker to one side and instead focusing on someone who can cover both wings, he's a great player that's for sure
