what's the thinking behind this? thought our priority positions were CM RWB and CF? this guy (although very good) is a left winger, a position we're already well stocked unless we're planning on selling bergwijn after all?
The thinking is GOOD PLAYER CAN'T THINK

I'm happy that links to players have started appearing out of nowhere. Seems like Paratici is starting to work this window after a slow start.

We should have given them 10 days to respond. That would have aligned more properly with how we handle things.

Look at us throwing bids that are light by about 25 million big ones and then having the audacity to stick a 48 hour deadline on what is a 2 second response of 'no'.

I bloody love this club.

It could very well mean that we're letting Bergwijn go and have a succession plan for Sonny. And looking at his goal tallly, it wouldn't be too far fetched to see him play the 2nd striker role.

Spending a massive amount of money on a player who’s position is the same as Son, when what we really need is a left footer to play from the right and replace Lucas?

Can definitely see this happening then.
We can just keep running Son into the ground then as he gets older.

Gil will be sent on loan somewhere. Reggie and Sess are wingbacks, not attackers. Bergwijn is right side/central.

Really not all that deep on the left.
Bergwijn is not right sided/central at all, he was a LW before we signed him his entire career. He struggled with us being played out of position.

He looks an incredible player but honestly, we're obsessed with the left side of the pitch. Son/Bergwijn/Gill, Reguilon/Sessegnon.

Granted Adama is right sided for the wingback spot but if we only have limited resources, then I'm just concerned on balance.

This is not to take away from the player himself, he looks fantastic and I'll be as excited as anybody but in terms of pure squad balance, you'd have some concerns wouldn't you. If this is who Conte wants then go for it but I'll be interested to see how it all comes together.
Agree. As exciting as it is to finally be linked to a top quality player, it would seem bizarre to have him and Son at left wing when there are multiple gaping holes in our first team, let alone the squad. This seems like opportunism if true rather than part of a solid strategy.

How much more would we need to pay to get Raphinha out of Leeds? Prem proven and in a position in which we’re light.

If our penny-pinching on other transfers enables us to get a player of this profile then the massively frustrating way we conduct ourselves in the market will have been worth it.

Having said that, I’m not going to get my hopes up until we get some indication that they’re willing to deal.

In all likelihood this news reels in a bigger fish but hopefully we are deep in negotiations for this to come out. It's the journalist involved and it being an 'exclusive' that makes this notable. Maybe Utd/Liverpool aren't in a position to stump up £40m+ this window on him and Porto have decided to cash in now.

This is a player that could rip up the PL with his attributes. Well worth being in for regardless of our priority areas.

If we were to get him, it'd be amazing. You could see the thinking:

- Son/Lucas/Diaz/Gil as WF options
- Kane/Bergwijn(?) ST
- Creativity and ball progression comes from Wingbacks (Traore) and inside forwards.
- Midfield 2 in the 343 just has to be solid defensively

Maybe just maybe the people we want to fill the holes aren't available right now, and this is an opportunity buy that we can't pass up if it's available? You fill the holes in the summer then.

Yeah I'd love Raphina, I've always wondered why Son, who is both footed is tried out on the right side more tbh. As I say if this happens, I'll be fascinated to see how it all fits.

The Lautaro Martinez of last window, where all of sudden news of advanced talks happened.

We will know how it ends. Loved to be proven wrong,
