The fact that he had already agreed salary with liverpool sums up why it was a fait accompli.

Disappointed, let's hope we have something in the pipeline.

Cherry picking at its finest.

You could spend a few minutes on RAWK and see that all of your opinions here are just casual/tourist syndrome. You're only seeing what you want to see.

Last season they had didn't defend the title because they had no defenders, and they gave him a lad from Preston who cost £500k and Tsimikas.

If that was happening on here, you'd never hear the last of it - and yet you don't mention it.

yeah but they won the title and the champions league. People can argue over cherry picking or stats or Levys plan or intentions but you're either winners or you're not. Spurs are not winners and all the indicators from the owners is that they either dont want to win or do not have a proper plan to.

Liverpool hate them as I do have a clear plan and have executed it and thats why they're even in the convo with the team that Pep has built who are putting up the highest points every year.

I couldn't disagree more. We've spent more and gambled more - that's why we're trying to shift £100m worth of players that were coups at the time, but have been nothing but expensive errors.

We're trying for the same player here - same gamble, just different lure.
I agree with this, in as much as we have to gamble more as we can't get the top players as easily. It's a slightly self-fulfilling kind of thing, where we need to get into being a regular Top 4 CL competing club again with a top manager again before we can compete on equal footing with the likes of Liverpool etc...

It's why 2018 was such a monumental fuck up. That should have been the year we kicked on and started acting like a proper top 4 team with regards to our manager situation and transfer activity. We've now finally, after 2 seasons of pissing about sorted out the manager situation. I think there was hope with Paratici coming in that we'd also sorted out the transfer side, but clearly not.

Yes we may pull something out the bag before Tuesday, i'm pretty sure we will actually otherwise Levy will have both Conte and the supporters on his case for the rest of the season. But what we should be doing is coming up with a list of players we want that we know we can get and executing quick deals for them.

Why have Liverpool sent people out to South America? Well, I know why, but at the same time, why? We didn't seem to feel the need to. Or at least we weren't told we had. I thought a deal could be done without all that. Something fishy here, of course my nose could be too sensitive but..........

Wish there was some football this weekend to distract from the transfer nonsense.

Really can't wait for this window to just be over, for better or for worse.

If our only hope of signing Diaz was to do it in the dead of night, it smacks of hilarious hijinks and incompetence. When do transfers ever happen in silence, especially if you're worried that the player might want to go to a different team

It seems like its a much more exciting story now that Liverpool want him, so they are pushing all kinds of stuff to keep it interesting.

Why are we wasting time chasing a player that doesn't want to play RWB (Traore), and a player that was all ready lined up for Liverpool?

Seems like a fools errand. Same with Vlahović.

While we are on the subject of Liverpool, pretty sure the absolute massive fucking lucking out on Coutinho got them VVD and Allison.

They are Liverpool at the end of the day, no matter how much anyone tries to argue otherwise they are a vastly bigger pull than us, no comparison.

If we are competing for players with Liverpool, Chelsea, United, City, Barca, Madrid, Bayern, Juve etc.. we are doing it very, very wrong

I was initially pretty pissed about this, but the more I think about it, it seems we had a bit of a chancer on this one should Liverpool drag their feet. They then decided not to and it was a lost cause. I don't think there is anything we could have done more, Liverpool haven't got wind that we were trying for him from the media, its come from his agent, who is employed to get him the best move possible... which he has done. Same with Traore. Same with Vlahovic

At one point last season people were genuinely asking if they were at risk of relegation.

From PL & CL winners to a fear of relegation. FSG did nothing of any ambition. When they turned it around, it wasn't due to FSG, or a plan - it was independent of that.

If Liverpool go for Luis Diaz, it will be because they've been scared into jumping for it. It might work out, it might be a disaster - but they have been dawdling much, much longer than us.

I sense you feel some form of optimism about something, maybe suggesting we werent entirely sure the deal would get done.....

This fundamentally wrong. Their scouting and recruitment has been exceptional. They have backed Klopp with key signings when it matters (VVD, Allisson) plus recruited basically their whole side, Robertson, Wijnaldjum, Salah, Mane, Firminio, etc etc all great signings for little money.

Every club signs crap, but some clubs get it right far more than wrong, and Liverpool are an example of this. That is how they won major trophies, plus appointed a great coach and DOF. You can't say it's luck, they make their own luck with great decison making.
Yes, I sincerely hope that people within our organisation are looking at Liverpool and questioning what they are doing better and going a bit beyond 'luck' in their analysis. It would be stunning complacency to think that luck is the only thing separating the clubs.

There are lucky moments within their rise, like Sissoko's armpit, but they also achieved 196 points (!) over two league seasons, winning the title in only one of those - that's not reducible to luck. I also don't buy that getting good prices for their players is attributable to luck, it's knowing the games that agents play and gaming that system well, rather than being screwed over by it as we seem to be. For quite a number of years we have been poor at getting rid of players and likewise that is not some quirk of chance but due to the way we operate.

Any moaning that is happening now is probably down to the fact that they have gone out and backed Klopp with key signings in the past but perhaps haven't done that for a couple of seasons now - although it seems like they've got a good one in the bag at our expense this window.
