Couple of points.....

1- FACT: Modric is a quality player and we will be a poorer team without him

2- Modders spouting off that he will "make a DECISION" sounds like he has a poor memory, he tried to make a few decisions last summer and where did it get him? Sorry mate, but DL has as much a say as you on your 'decisions'

3- Personally I think we may struggle to get the £40M offers this window especially if Chelsea have moved on, United are my bets for his destination if he goes.

I agree with all of the above. If we take off our spurs tinded glasses, is he really worth the sums that are being bandled about? For me he is surely not a £40 million player, not even a £30M one.

if we let modric go, no way we will take cash deal. we HAVE to make a cash + player deal, with opponent team paying part of wages if we cant pay fully. instead of modric for 40, i much rather

modric for ade/dzeko + johnson + 15

Not so many major swap deals these days. I can see us trying to work in something for Ade if it was with Man City, but he isn't valued highly there and only has one year left on his contract. That would mean that Johnson would be a huge part of that transfer and I think we'd rather have the money than Johnson, we can find better value for money elsewhere.

I don't blame Modric for wanting to leave. He is getting to the age where he should be winning things and unfortunately that isn't going to happen at spurs, any time soon. Especially with Harry in charge IMO.

If we do sell him then it must be abroad. As I have stated many times we are trying to get closer to the teams above us in the league and we are only going to make ourselves weaker and one of them stronger if we sell him to man united/man city. That makes no sense to me. The only way I comprehend this is if we reinvested the majority of the fee into a player already at the same level as Modric but I don't believe that is possible because any players worth £30m + is going to command wages well outside our wage structure.

i know it rarely happens, but if man c wants modric, or any team does, we have all the leverage in the world. its down to THEM to negotiate with them, not us

You'd rather Johnson than an extra £20m?

I really hope we don't sell Modric and that we keep him here without distraction for a good pre-season training and we hit the ground running next year. I can't see Levy changing his mind about us not selling our best players and Modric is clearly one of those.

Look at what happened to Liverpool when they sold the heartbeat of their team Alonso
Biggest mistake they ever made

Its risky I know, but football is a risky game. Liverpool would be ruined if they sold Torres, and Newcastle? what a joke to sell Andy Carroll

Got to laugh at Modric over the "i will decide where i play next season" comment.

He has clearly learned nothing after last summer, as it will once again be Levy who decides where Modric plays next season.

I can see Levy being well up for the fight to keep Modric, especially after the positive press he received last summer by keeping Modric.

If we dont qualify for CL he will be sold
If we do, he will be sold for more

Thats what I reckon

If its Chealsea I'd luv us to try for Mata in some kind of deal he has really impressed me this season, a real shame we didn't close the deal with him at the time. If Chealsea have no CL football he could be intrested, a bit of a pipe dream though.

United are my bets for his destination if he goes.

They're buying Kagawa, Fergie won't want another tiny midfielder. More worried they'll notice Sandro is exactly what they're in need of

Exactly. I have higher hopes for Sandro than Modric, different type of player but I think Sandro can go on to be our best player and we need to keep him. Modric didn't impress me that much last season, his mind was clearly elsewhere for large portions of it.

I expected these quotes to come after Saturday, if Chelsea had won, but perhaps he wants to leave this summer regardless.

I suspected this would be the case, and although when we were flying I suspect he was wobbling, I think he's always wanted to leave. You don't kick up as much of a fuss as he did last Summer and then just forget about it (not easily anyway) and even if Chelsea do balls it up on Saturday, I still expect United to come sniffing around.

Couple of things...

Firstly, like when reading any quotes from players, you need to be asking "what was he asked to give that response?" Do you think Modric was just minding his own business, saw a couple of journos and said it? Or was he asked a leading question to give them the line they wanted? I wouldn't be surprised if the exchange between Modric and the journos was a lot more like him just thinking about the Euros and not about his future.

Secondly,
Laid on more chances than any other spurs player this season

He made more key passes than anyone in the league, and I think anyone in Europe.

With Scholes deciding to stay another year I think United have conceded they're not going to sign Modric this summer.

This thing about him making the most passes annoys me. One of the biggest problems in the way Spurs play these days is that ALL we seem to be able to do is pass around the edge of the box, it's only natural, given the amount of times Balennon stop near the box and turn back to pass to the edge again, that Modric will be high on the pass leaderboards.

If we let him go then it's 40-45m to City(if they don't buy Modric they will buy someone else let's face it) or abroad. Do NOT sell to Chelsea, Utd if they hit 45m.

For what it's worth, if we did come up against him i think Sandro would eat the little rat alive.

I wasn't quite right, but the quotes are a little out of context and not new...

Oh Luka, the season has barely ended and the Modric Transfer Circus hadn't officially started yet, why did you have to wake it from its slumber?

What's that Luka? You didn't, you just spoke to a football magazine about Croatia and other things a while back and can't understand why half the English media is running quotes as exclusives today?

We'll stop pretending to talk to Luka Modric and get to the bottom of this.

World Soccer magazine have a rather excellent Euro 2012 magazine that's been out for a week or so now, in it they talk to players who will be taking part. One of those is Luka Modric, and the first question is about his future and he responds "I will decide about my future after the Euros. More precisely, I will make my decision where to continue with my career.

I'm ready for big tests. I want to prove, together with the help of my team mates, that Croatia has the potential to reach the quarter-finals, and then we'll see."

The first part of that quote, along with the 'ready for big tests' is what is all over the football news today. Some are claiming it as an 'Exclusive' and others are citing 'sources'. It's not new, indeed it would have been weeks ago, and the only people who can claim the story are surely World Soccer.

However, Modric is happy to talk about his future and the possibility of a change but says that any transfer will not be motivated by money "The only thing that could encourage me to leave is my ambition, not money. If the money was the reason then I would have already accepted the offer of chairman Levy.

I was hoping this season we would win a trophy, the FA Cup, but we lost to Chelsea. Some people blamed me but I've never shirked my responsibilities."

So, no mad panic for those Spurs fans who are desperate for Luka Modric to stay, but the sings are that it won't be hard for a club to turn the Croatian's head. Again.

Go and buy World Soccer magazine, it's really quite good.
