my dad was talking to a person in itv today, well his mate, and he said that ITV seriously trying to get the fa cup game between us and united pulled from tv this wk end due to Sir AF and Harry's comments on the game. They will not get the viewers they thought they would get now that both managers are putting out weak weak teams and harry saying he has not interest in the game. there tryin to get fulham v kettering.

just thought i'd let people know wat i heard.

Surley too late now? But even a weak Man Utd and Tottenham teams can produce a better game than Fulham vs Kettering surely!

It will be too late to change times of both matches me thinks. Policing, infrastructure and fans.

Maybe they won't get as many viewers, but I think with the injuries on both teams, and other players coming in it could potentially be a very enjoyable game to watch.

To be honest this is the game I want to see this season

Taarabt, Dos Santos and Bostock are the most exciting talents we've got

Would be alot of pulled games every week if talks about injured, rested players was the reason.

There is a revenue issue here though isn't there. Once again Rdknapp's big mouth may have shot us up the arse. Anyone know what each televised match earns ?

Plus there's been a lot of advertising about both games they are showing on Sat, they'd look a bit stupid to change the schedule now.

I'm really not fussed if this happens, and I wouldn't have been even before Harry announced that we'd send a weakened team up there. Man Utd vs Spurs happens twice a year, every year (let's hope that's still the case next season!), and is often televised. On the other hand, how many times are Kettering gonna get to play live on national TV? Less than once in a blue moon, is the answer. Ok, so they're only playing Fulham (not the most 'glamorous' side in the world), but Fulham are still a Premiership team and they have had a very good season themselves this year.

IMO, *any* non-league team vs a Premiership team in the FA Cup should be the first pick for the televised matches, and then other matches should be picked in a suitable pecking order after that. I'd be quite happy to sacrifice Spurs being on TV to make way for any such tie, as that's what the FA Cup is supposed to be about: the minnows getting their chance to make club history in the 3rd and 4th rounds etc.

What makes the whole thing even worse is that ITV have been flogging the shit out of the 'magic of the Cup, minnows versus giants' line with their promotion of the FA Cup this year, and as soon as they get a chance to show a genuine potential giantkilling, they promptly forget all their high philosophies for the grubby dollar of advertising revenues for all-Premiership ties. Absolute jokers, and the day that they aren't allowed to show another football match ever again can't come soon enough.

Oh, right, blame it on Redknapp. You blame everything else on him, so no point in changing, is there? ITV don't need him or Ferguson to tell them both teams are likely to have about eight first-choice players missing.

Do ITV really think that Fulham and Kettering will draw more viewers than United v. Spurs, even at half-strength? If so, they need sectioning.

Good post and very true that the magic of the cup is the minnows Vs the giants. Don't want to see ITV unable to broadcast however or the Beeb or we'd be stuck with paying for all games on TV (OK I know we pay a beeb licence) on Sky/Setanta

saw this - so it may even be a longer match - not that we are going to need it!
GRAHAM POLL: Don’t worry, lads, you can choose to play on

If Harry Redknapp and Tottenham are so indifferent towards the FA Cup and this match against Manchester United, then they would definitely not like a replay. So how
about this as an option for them?
Having studied the rulebook yesterday, I learned that it is within the regulations of the FA Cup that extra- time can be played in the first tie if clubs have mutually agreed to
play the extra 30 minutes should it be necessary.
Permission is not required from the FA, just confirmation of the clubs’ agreement in writing. Then they just need to inform the referee of the agreement.
With United’s fixtures piling up as they aim for the quadruple and Tottenham facing a relegation battle, it might be an idea for both teams, although I’m not sure if ITV would be best pleased if they had to delay Harry Hill’s TV Burp!

Wow, excellent find - I had absolutely no idea such a regulation existed! I wonder if any teams have ever used it before?
