I’m a 43yo 6ft 4 man and I wanna call this guy daddy! He just oozes confidence, do we dare believe?? He is the underdog, he’s called a second year league manger uo until now. I just get the vibes he is here to prove everyone wrong, and do it with a big smile on his face.

I only saw highlights but read a lot of the comments. I just think Dier would be a real liability in a high line, but in all fairness I've written him off before and he came back strong after his illness.
Il be honest Dier gets a lot of shit, people forget how good he was under Poch. It’s not his actual ability I question it’s his ability to stay switched on for 90mins, but honestly I could say the same for any of our cbs .

People also forget he had an illness that he had to battle back from. He was fine last night (as was the back four) until they tired and Xavi brought on fresh legs full of pace. After that initial start with the goal and a few times of getting in behind I thought they figured it out and forced Barca back more often than not allowing everyone to get back behind the ball.

The abuse he got last night was a joke. He is way behind the others in terms of preseason fitness, but was doing fine with the high line until the last ten minutes or so when he clearly ran out of legs. I'll be amazed if he's sold this window. If vdV comes straight in, I'm not sure if Romero is the man to step up and lead the back line. You could see Dier and Romero battling it out for the RCB position.

That's encouraging. I only saw highlights and Dier looked pretty awful but that's understandable if he was gassed out. I hope he gets his form back because I think he's a great character, but I'm still very concerned about his agility and pace in a high line. Hope he proves me wrong.

I seriously cannot see a world where Dier is challenging Romero as the starting RCB.

Loving how Ange is handling the media with all of this uncertainty. So calm and composed and focused.

Many of our other former 3 recent managers and/or other managers would be losing their head over this and adding fuel to the fire.

Ange such a calming influence even though clearly it will be causing him some frustration, but as he says he just focuses on what’s in front of him, gives his input where needed and adapts where needed.

He’s the absolute perfect person for this situation our rebuild and handling Levy all combined.
Yeah, I'm hoping it comes from a marrow deep confidence in his ability. Like a striker who misses shot after shot but just trusts themselves. Basically the Kane equivalent of management. That kind of confidence is the fuel that he seems to drive his teams with. He believes in himself, his methods and all he asks for is application and to play the game his way. Luckily the way he wants to play is pure football, the kind you dream about playing so is easier to get buy in for.

Conte and Jose just never seemed to get to that level of self belief, which is illogical given their records. Always felt that the slightest dip in form would reflect badly on them and that they would therefore have to blame someone else to get ahead of it.

Ancelotti is another who doesn't seem too bothered about media chat, he knows he's good. Pep maybe too (if he ever dared to come out of his comfort zone).

As he has shown repeatedly, Romero can be needlessly reckless and I'm not sure he's particularly vocal on the pitch. There's no getting away from it, but Dier and Davies are the senior pros of the defensive unit. With a new keeper, a new CB and a new LB, there will be a need for an experienced voice in the heart of the defence. Maybe Romero will grow up a bit and calm down?

Really pleased with what I've seen of him, and I've enjoyed the three friendlies I've watched more than anything Mourinho or Conte served up (friendly or otherwise).

I'm hoping people don't get ahead of themselves with expectations though. Think it might be a rocky start before it really settles and kicks in to gear. Hope we (the fans) give him the time.

He definitely has that "don't give a shit" confidence to him. Like he knows something nobody else does and he's more than happy to have people under estimate him.

We're gonna love him arent we?

What a boring place this has become with all the enthusiasm for the new manager. Wake me up when the moaning returns. :)

He needs to sort our defence out quickly. With our CBs tracking the FW up the pitch, opposing AMs/wingers are finding it easy to get in/through.
It's a test of whether he can get us organized off-the-ball.
We are handed a easy start defence-wise against Brentford. Hopefully this would buy him an extra week.

Not sure I agree. Brentford’s style of play is perfect to counter the way Spurs want to play. Quick transitions, getting in behind the last man with their pace, and set-pieces.

We’ll have plenty of the ball — for once — but they’ll be relishing this. Look what they did to Ten Hag’s Utd a year ago. Smacked it long and ran onto it.

Yeah it's one of the worst fixtures we could get tbh.

Away against a physical, organised team that's great at home, is quick on the break and has a very smart manager.

Oh, and that we'll be expected to beat.

That’s all they ever do. It brings results against teams pressing high up the pitch such as city away but it’s not good to watch.

Hopefully in Royal, VDV and Udogie we have the pace and athleticism to deal with Brentford's tactics.

It's going to be a tough test on Sunday but irrespective of the result we have to give Ange time and support.
