Different roles though and to retrain two of them at the same time is a big ask.

Let's see, going to be really interesting to watch some of the choices he makes.
But In a 4231 the fullbacks play as wing backs anyway .?
Ie they running the lines like walker and rose did .
I’d love to see Porto and udogie in the attacking full back rolls in a team that plays high up the pitch .

That would certainly be easier for them than an inverted role.

Cool video below of a discussion on footballing philosophy between Jose, Nuno, Antonio and Ange. You might have already seen it.

Sure. If we were playing tomorrow the 4 3 3 would might look like this. Don't overthink the players I am picking. I have Skipp over Bissouma for example, because Bissouma is a bit of an unkown quantity.

Lloris
(Forster)
Royal Cuti Dier Davies
(Tanganga) (Sanchez) (Lenglet) (Udogie)
Skipp
(Bissouma)
Deki Bentancur
(Sarr) (PEH)
Porro Kane Son
(Persic) (Richy) (Gil)

Now some of this is a little fancyful. Like Gil, or Deki but I actually doubt it, is more likely to come in for Persic I believe. and Porro for Tanganga. But this team isn't that far off. Clearly we need a CB or two, probably a fullback. Definetly a more offensive midfielder, and I would say a naturally right sided winger.

So we are looking at ideally, 5 signings. Thats not too bad at all. I also don't think this team would do badly at all.

Ange seems to like a midfield 3 with a number 10 playing as an 8, Deki, who actually thinks his best position is Central, should thrive in that position I believe. A more box to box like number 8, Bentacur can do this, good at running late into box, good passer too. tbh he could play as the holder too. Particularly as Ange seems to like a player who can set the tempo. PEH can do the N.8 too, not a perfect fit, but he got 9 goal contributions for a reason last season. At DM we are sorted. Skipp is a developing player that would benefit from being in a positon he can be more agressive and without us being outnumbered in that position. Bissouma might thirve too.

Ange likes wingers to be wingers, to stick out wide. Son has been playing more centrally but when we signed him he was a winger, he might even end up playing him on the right tbh. Porro could do that role well, provide width etc. I see that as more likely his role because at Full back he might be able to do the underlaping well,. The Full backs are extremely important defensively in Ange teams. The point is to free up the wingers, so they are able to quickly recieve the ball in transition. Therefore, I think Davies and Royal would be well suited to the position.

So, I don't think we are far from it. Ange has played possession based football with very limited sides that aren't that technical, such as Australia. This is because the idea is to create the spaces. when players are in spaces, and trained to pass very quickly, trained to win the ball back quickly, then it is easier to play that kind of football. Obviously we could do with a few more players comfortable on the ball, but it's not all about having technical players. (Winks can also keep the ball and is our player but I'm not going there). But while we do need a rebuild it's not like our team is completely unprepared. He takes the team as is he has enough to work with to create a semblence of what he wants. In all of his teams he is not scared of overhalls and we might see that here too. But it’s not like it’s impossible to play 433.
I have long thought that Spence could be really exciting as a rwf in a set-up such as this, with Deki moved inside. There is also the possibility that Sess could do similar on the left. I know folk have pretty much written him off (and with good reason) but I believe there’s still a player in there, and, at 25, he’s still got the chance to recreate his early years at Fulham, where he had an unbelievable habit of showing up, on cue, in the box.
We aren’t gonna have hundreds of millions to spend, however much we want to, and it’s as much about reinvigorating the players as replacing them for me.

Tactics and formations are both variables as to what is expected in players at certain positions. Any of the formations 5-3-2, 5-2-3, 3-4-3, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 can be very attacking or defensive based on the tactics that are deployed. In all of these formations (outside mids in a 3-4-3 are basically WBs) the FBs/WBs can play high, inverted, one high and one staying back, etc. You can press, play a low block, defend and counter, play possession in any of the formations.

I am more concerned about us being able to get the ball on the ground, control possession, create chances and defend to win the ball back quickly when we don't have the ball. Don't care the formation or whether FBs fly down the wings or are inverted as long as the overall team shape allows us to progress the ball quickly, play with spacing and width, create quality chances and have enough shape to quickly transition from both offense to defense and defense to offense as required.

Our problem has been that either we have not been set up to play like this, the players were not instructed or disciplined enough (think they were caught needlessly out of position a lot) to follow the instructions, not mobile enough to carry out the plan (an issue at a number of positions) or simply not good enough (I do not think this is the case).

Looking forward to the transition regardless of where players start on the proverbial chalkboard.

Imagine a back three of walker, Romero and Cowill with Maddison in the hole and Bissouma and Bentancour as the two midfielders.

Yeah I'm dreaming 😍

Or tying Kangaroos down for that matter.

Looking up Chris Davis, this is what he had to say:

"Controlling the game with the ball will always be central to my philosophy but I want a degree of tactical flexibility to adapt to different opponents and different situations. I’m a pragmatic person, and I feel that transfers into my coaching."
—Davies on his coaching philosophy.

So we could be appointing Paul Clement and Chris Davies as coaches.

Getting ready for the relegation battle I see.

All jokes aside, I hope they do well and Ange is happy

Chris Davies has been part of a coaching team that has won more trophies than us over the last 15 or so years so I’ll take that…

So has Kevin Nolan but I wouldn't want him on our coaching staff ;)

Rumour down here in West Wales last few days was that Davies was going to be the new Swansea manager 🤷‍♂️
