Sorry but the sign on fee bit is asking us to believe all agents are idiots and won't be knocking on Levy's door asking for the same for their players. Money is money and if the other players agents see us paying large bonuses to supposedly stay within the wage structure they will want the same.

Exactly, we sign Gotze even with signing on bonuses to offset wages we will have Kane and Lloris demanding the same, probably Alli too

But this is a so call top player which will have exception. Neymar salary is a good case study.

Of course they will in the next contract if we are successful. Then we should pay to keep them.

You have a fluffy bunny view of the world, football does not work like that, agents will not sit around waiting a few years for their client to get an improved deal, they will want Gotze wages immediately or will likely risk forcing a move

100% we can afford his wages, but could we afford the line of agents at the door asking for improved contracts for other players from our squad if this went through?

Agree... But what is the best deal for him now? Continue to be bench and value goes down or go BVB and continue with bad press?

I am not saying we sign him, but we have options to deal with this but require resources to make this happen.

So having an early feeler will let us know the possibilities. Nevertheless I am not expecting him to come but just to point out that it is possible. For discussion sake.

Wages are subjective, could be offset with signing on fee as an example. This coupled with how many teams could afford to pay the wages and also want the player and I think we stand a good chance (if we really want him)

This is how i see this playing out.

This rumour will kick around for a few days and some people on here will get excited, others will say something like "don't fall for it. This will never happen." Then we will get a small barrage of more intensifying rumours, maybe even a comment from an agent or some long lost cousin.

Then he will sign for Juventus,

At that point, some people will say "he is over-rated", others will lament missing out on him and yet others will go on a tirade about Levy. We will all then concentrate on whatever other rumour is bouncing around.

3 months into the season when we inevitably tie/lose to someone like Burnley or WBA a whole bunch of people will say "If we had just splurged the X million more we would have had Gotze instead of [insert signing that people debate here] and he would have unlocked them and we wouldn't have dropped points."

This will start a whole new argument....someone will be called a wankpuffin, A&C will shine his dildo, people will complain about Poch and lots of people will complain about Levy.

I am about 90% positive some version of this will play out.

It's that 10% of me that thinks...."well maybe..." that fucking kills me...:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I don't think this would happen though. Kane and Lloris will be on £100k if both sign their new deals. If Gotze is on slightly higher, the fact he was been a CL regular, WC winner you could say that it's entirely justifiable.

Yep, much more justifiable with him then it would have been for Batshuayi

Liverpool, Gotze is Klopp's prodigy, they can also pay him any wage he wants

Do you honestly see Gotze taking a £50k a week pay cut to come here?

Plus Chelsea would happily buy him to stop us getting him regardless of if he is needed or not

I was under the impression he had already rejected Liverpool, hence why I left them off the list.

Yes, Chelsea very well might, hence why I DID include them in the list. They could easily snap him up and worry about moving a player on afterwards, if they were so inclined that way.

You may notice that I said our possibility of getting him was a marginal one.

We all would like a player like Gotze but it just isn't feasible for our team. We get Gotze on £100-120k a week and £20 million, all good in isolation. The thing is, then when we try and resign Kane, Lloris etc, and they all ask for £40k more rather than £20k more. Soon we are paying an extra £60k a week and we can't afford a new Dier or a new Alli. It's not worth it.

All our top players will be on 100k soon. Transfer fees have exploded this summer, and it's because of the new tv deal. Same will happen with wages. We used to pay 60k to star player, now it will be 100

I know a couple have said they've heard nothing, and I'm not dismissing them, but the optimist in me thinks that them hearing nothing is a damn sight better than hearing that we are not in any way interested...

There was mentioning of a real tightening at Spurs as to how much info got out, so maybe this is being worked on really very quietly...

Only trying be optimistic about this one, hopefully something can happen!

I can see it now:

Transfer Rumor: Tottenham in for Messi in a mega-deal!!

Spurs Supporter: Meh, we don't need any tax cheats here. Plus, did you see him miss that PK in the COPA finals? Its a pass for me.

Rather have Bolasie. He's on his way up.
