Hope he does well for fulham, still think nil did a bell of a lot for us and could have been more if he got more of a backing with players he wanted

Out of intrest what kind of signings did he make at Hamburg and Ajax, I know his purse strings were pretty tight at both clubs but were they successful?

I imagine he'll selebrate by phoning Rooney and asking for a referral to the hair loss clinic.

Great guy and will get an ovation at the lane that Harry has never had ...BUT.....lets keep it real, Jol is a nice bloke but only an above average manager,i would consider it a step backwards if he were to rejoin us.

He was forced to sell VDV no?

yeh VdV said he was leaving before Jol even got the job, tried his best to keep him but alas to no avail. Jol is apparently a massive VdV fan however.

For Ajax he bought El Hamoundi

For HSV, Jensen was bought, which appears out of favour now but he did a good job the season Jol was incharge

He also followed Atouba wherever he went, even though Jol clearly doesn't rate him.Jol drops Atouba from Spurs side. Atouba moves to Hamburg, Jol moves to hamburg, Jol drops Atouba from hamburg side, Atouba moves to Ajax, Jol moves to Ajax, Atouba is dropped.

I think he has worked with a DoF at all of his clubs though. He only made signings for spurs for one season, before Commoli after Arneson and he signed these players-

Y.P.Lee
Jenas
Davids
Routledge
Tainio
Huddlestone
Lennon
Staltieri

Great to see Martin Jol back in the Premiership. And I'm happy that he's managing Fulham rather than say Newcastle. I wouldn't be surprised if comes in for a couple of our players. Keane? Jenas?

In. Your. Opinion.

Jol changed the fortunes of the club and gave us the expectations we now have. FACT. END OF.

I believe posters are inclined to put such phrases as "END OF" or "FACT" at the end of the above sentence. I feel no need.

Bar Routledge all did a decent job, some more than decent.

Must be made clear, some of these where quite clearly lined up by Arnesen its just he had left before he signed them. Just like I think it is fair enough to excuse the first two legendary signings made by Commoli, Murphy and Raziak!

We never really know how transfers work within a club so it is very hard to pinpoint what came from what, and normally it is a combined effort between many people.

Jenas for example Jol has confessed he had very little to do with his signing, but Levy thought it was a too good opportunity to pass up. It might have something to do with us having been watching him since the Pleat days, as confirmed by Pleat.

Seeing as i posted it , i didn't feel the need to add in my opinion.
Your opinion is that Jol changed the fortunes of the club? Whilst i respect what he done and will always love the big fella, IMO, him returning would be a step backwards, even if as you say he raised expectations, expectations i feel he would never have fulfilled...in my opinion

I'm not going to go over old ground on this, because I seem to remember us having many an argument on this subject.

One thing you cannot deny, however, is that he did raise expectations. Because 5th for the second year in a row was a disappointment to some. Considering we'd averaged about 11th before then, you surely have to admit that!

Like you say, I really hope he does get a good reception. I'm very much looking forward to Fulham at home.

 on this i am with you fully, i will give him the reception he deserves.

just a small point, ask yourself why Levy got rid of him even though he was so popular with the fans and we got 5th as you say,Levy put his head on the line sacking him, unlike us, Levy knows what goes on in the dressing room, players talk, and i feel Levy knew that Jol was not the man for us .

It will be great to welcome him back to the lane. I hope he gets a big cheer, which I'm sure he will

He put the fun back into the club, something that i feel had been missing for many, many years.

I remember going to Old Trafford a few days after the Ramos story broke. Nani scored a deflected long ranger, it was Bale's debut and we had two stonewall penalties turned down.

From an hour before kick off until we left the ground the Spurs fans were singing his name. A magnificent show of support.

I still get tears in my eyes now when I watch the youtube video "Stand up for Martin Jol" filmed during the Getafe game.

I think I'm in that video about two rows in front of where it's being taken. Hehehe.
