Gomes-5. Shaky all night long.

Charlie-5.
Gallas-7.
Daws-7.
BAE-6.

Lennon-7.
Modric-4.
Sandro-8.
Pienaar-4.

VDV-4.
Crouch-6.

I think in general, just add 2 to each score and it will look like the other ratings. Different scale, but the same approximate difference between players. It was a great team result, so I think the 4's here might be a little harsh. But, I respect your opinion. COYS!!!

I thought we were terrible, sim0n. We may not have conceded three goals in ten minutes but we looked too scared to get on the ball and play-shades of the first games against Young Boys and Inter.

Gomes-7 couple of dodgy moments but still made a few good saves and claims

Charlie -6 obviously not fit but gave his all and still made a few important interceptions
Gallas-9 great clearance and marshalled the defence brilliantly
Daws-9 made a few vital blocks, won everything in the air and kept Ibrahimavic very quiet
BAE-7 some poor passes but did what he needed to at the back

Lennon-7 a couple of great crosses and showed improved football brain at the end when he held the ball up well, would have liked to see him drive at his man more often though Milan doubled up well on him in the 1st half
Modric-7 not his best night but AC kept very tight to him
Sandro-10 outstanding defensive midfield display, he worked incredibly hard and was a real thorn in Milans side
Pienaar-7 worked hard and did his job defensively very well. Best still to come but setlling in nicely

VDV-6 not fit and it showed
Crouch-7.5 worked hard, won a lot in the air but should have done much better with his chance at the start of the 2nd half!

Pav- 6 no real time but did ok
Jenas - 7 sensible and kept thing calm
Bale - not fully fit and didn't look comfortable but did ok and gave an outlet down the left

I agree, I thought we were extremely underwhelming. But we defended well and Sandro was marvellous.

Gomes 7 - good saves, one or two moments of madness
Corluka 7 - ok, but looked a bit rusty
Dawson 9 - fantastic blocks and tackles, really didn't give Ibrahimovic any room.
Gallas 8.5 - not quite as imperious as Dawson but great clearance off the line
BAE 8 - his usual calm self in a big game.

Sandro 10 - this was one of the truly great DM performances, he was everywhere from first to last, so many brilliant interceptions and tackles, and all but one of his passes was on target. Magnificent, especially for his age.
Modric 7.5 - decent performance, some great passes, a little lacking in options ahead of him.
Lennon 7.5 - looked dangerous all game and put in three brilliant crosses - who says he lacks a final ball? On another day could have got a couple of assists

Pienaar 6.5 - solid and some good probing early on, but a little out of it.

VDV 5.5 - Obviously not fit, and off the pace, which was a shame. Didn't hurt us as our shape was good, but i wouldn't blame defoe for being aggrieved at not playing.

Crouch 7 - Gave the Milan defenders nightmares, and kept running and trying all game. Should really have got that one headed chance on target though.

Bale 6.5 - didn't do much

Jenas 7 - solid and creative in the middle, did well in the time he had.

Pav - not enough time.

Great defensive performance today, we have a new hero at DM, at this rate Huddlestone might struggle to get back in the first XI!

Everyone did well even if it was not the attacking performance we hoped. Milan played well and, quite obviously, VDV and Bale are not yet fully fit.

Sandro shone tonight, but we were lucky to have Modders next to him who whilst not at his best, still provides fantastic holding and distribution of the ball. Modric was way better than some have said on here; he even made a few tackles and a block.
Gallas was a rock and produced the great save on the line.
Gomes is being criticized for coming out, forcing the player wide and getting a slight touch on the ball to give us time. Now, yes, they could have scored, but had he stayed on his line would they have scored? They'd have had a chance. We've just kept two clean sheets against the Serie A leaders with a 'shaky' goalie. Amazing.

Gomes - 6 nearly cost us by being silly twice
Corluka 7 - ahhh a right back that can defend without fouling and being out of position
Dawson 7 - Solid
Gallas 8 - immense great at times especially bringing the ball
Out of defense!
Ekotto 6 - kept booting the ball
Away aimlessly putting us under pressure!
Lennon 8 - worked hard tracked back and some
Brilliant crossing and general play!
Modric 4 - my fav player but he was awful today! An enigma!
Sandro 10 - immense best defensive midfielder performance I've seen in years! Crashing good player class act!!
Pienaar 6 - worked hard but poor overall
Van der vaart 5 - see modric only gets an extra
Mark for troubling their keeper
Crouch 7 - caused them all kinds o trouble

Jenas 6 - exactly what we needed energy and calmness!
Pavulychenko N/A - good bit of play at the end!
Bale - anonymous

It wasn't the kind of game we expected but it was a fabulous defensive performance. Apart from one or two moments (like Gomes blunder) we looked solid in the face of a team who had much better possession.

Ratings:

Gomes 7 - apart from a couple of flaps and the blunder he looked assured and made a couple of important saves

Corluka 7 - much more safe than Hutton
Gallas 9 - superb performance. Missed nothing.
Dawson 9 - compliments Gallas perfectly, won everything in the air
BAE 8 - didn't get forward very much but was solid throughout

Lennon - 8 - had his moments and tracked back well.
Sandro - 10 - MOM - phenomenal performance - owned Boateng, great skills and tackling
Modric - 9 - excellent possession play and always an outlet
Pienaar - 7 - busy but i've yet to be won over by him

VDV - 7 - tried hard but looked slightly unfit.
Crouch - 7 - was always fouling Silva and should have gone for goal more often rather than constantly looking for the VDV knockdown.

SUBS:

Bale - 6 - barely touched the ball
Jenas - 7 - brought some control to proceedings
Pav N/A

As a team we played extremely well. Harry got the defensive tactics right (especially in the second half). But offensively, I sometimes despair of the VDV/Crouch combo. What we could do with a Suarez/Carroll set up - we'd be invincible!

Corluka - 6 (Battled hard, but distribution was poor)
Gallas - 8.5 (am glad to have him with us)
Dawson - 8 (Led the team well)
BAE - 7 (tried the long ball far too much)

Lennon - 7 (good)
Sandro - 10 (Man of the Match by far)
Modric - 6
Pienaar - 7

VdV - 6
Crouch - 7 (Should of gone for goal)

Bale - 6 (still looked as if he is not match fit)
Jenas - 6.5 (Slow on the decision making at times
Pav - (Didn't have time to make an impact)

Some very generous ratings tonight but I guess with the final result, rationality goes out the window :)

Gomes-5+1. Gets extra point for helping Sandro acclimatise to UK.

Charlie-6. Good defending, very poor distribution
Gallas-8. Solid.
Daws-7. Good but seems to have lost some pace since injury.
BAE-6. Good defending, very poor distribution

Lennon-7. Threatened but could have taken them on a bit more though
Modric-4. AWOL
Sandro-10. MOTM by a mile.
Pienaar-4. Err, worked hard?.

VDV-4. Sluggish, like a wet sponge though at least he had a shot on goal.
Crouch-6. Worked hard, gave away a lot of needless free kicks, should have found target with header,

Jenas. 6. worked hard, did he make a forward pass? Seriously.
Bale. 6. Crowded out.
Pav, 6. Too late, no service. Worked hard.

Terrible??? I dont think tonight is the night to call that team performance terrible. We just beat Milan over 2 legs without conceding. Yes we weren't great but terrible??? we are in the quarter finals of the champions league ffs.:duh:

Sandro - MOM, immense. No contest.

Sandro was awesome. Yet all the talk on the radio is about Gallas! Yes he was very good and made a crucial goal-line clearance, but anyone who watched the game for more than 5 minutes must have realised that Sandro was on another level to every other Spurs player tonight.

Gomes - 7 1 big error but also some important saves.

Corluka - 7 Solid but gave the ball away a fair bit
Dawson - 8
Gallas - 9
BAE - 8

Lennon - 8
Modric - 7 Thought he was a bit quiet tonight, but still looked assured when he did have the ball.
Sandro - 10
Pienaar - 9 Thought he was excellent. Full of running and intelligent use of the ball more often than not.

VdV - 7
Crouch - 8 Didn't give up even though he was getting very little from the ref and a lot of rought treatment from the Milan defence.

Subs - 7 None of them did much but we're through so good enough

The result was great. The performance was extremely anxious, the gameplan one-dimensional.

The performance may not have quite matched the result, but it was similar to the sort of performance which got Liverpool to Istanbul in 2005.

The objective was to win the tie, not the match, and we did that. It may not have been a glory glory night in the traditional sense, but still a great night.

You're comparing a pretty sturdy defensive performance and clean sheet against a side top of the italian league to a game in which we went 3-0 down in 45mins to a terrible side?
