Is Winks a league one CM who happened to come through our academy and capitalise on a poor crop of CM options and now has set himself up for life and has England caps?

People actually giving Romero a 6 or 7?! He was absolutely awful, passing was constantly going to Soton players putting us under more pressure. Was weak aerially and didn’t organise the defence at all. People rightfully slag off the same old players but are scared to criticise the fan favourites I see. Was a pathetic performance from everyone involved except Bentancur.

Gave it to Bentancur purely because it's nice to have a midfielder that can do things a midfielder should be able to do...
Like pass, move for the ball, want the ball, control, use both feet, pass on the move first time, and not shit themselves under pressure...

Lloris 7
Regs 5
Davies 5
Romero 6
Sanchez 0
Emeeson 2 (mostly because he player rcb more than any other position when sanchez went wondering)
PEH 0
Winks 2
Son 7
Lucas 6
Kane 6

Overall, poor. But some glimmers. Our 2nd goal was great team move. In first half, as bad as we were (and we really were bad) we did open them up a few times (reggy not slotting that still a mystery)
Bentacour was class. Strange how a midfielder that has good touch and gets heads up can change things.
Do agree we did look overrun in middle. Not sure 352 would have been better.. But, do I trust conte over me? Of course.

I whole heartedly agree. He was dreadful dreadful but he wasnt this beast that i see all people say he is all over twitter. He is a good player though but needs to play with Dier.... Dier is th eleader at the back... Romero isnt a leader and a coordinator at the back.

Hold on, I was told WBs had little defensive responsibilty, that’s why we were gonna but Traore there he was just gonna bomb forward and be covered. But now we have a defensive liability at WB.... GUYS we don’t control the midfield, that’s our problem, it’s as plain as day. You want to blame individuals go right ahead but it’s our midfield as a whole is the problem.
I said 2 years ago, we outside of lamela lacked a player comfortable on the ball who can dribble nowhere and suggested edwards

I still stand by it. All our players that are good on the ball only know how to play direct and attack now mode whilst the rest are hardworkers

Let's give him a run of 10+ games and for all we know he's still sharpening up his English skills

Yep, agreed and I'm sure Conte knows this. Romero is good but can be rash. Dier is key until we can get another leader in the summer.

Agree whole team was awful including Romero, I remember one awful pass out under no pressure that gave them a good shooting chance. That said Sanchez and Royal were so so bad I can understand hard to see beyond that. We had a none existent midfield, WInks was hideously bad and up top Moura and Son were messing up basic stuff, Bentacour only one I would give any credit for that disaster show, but he as Kane can well tell you can not do it all himself, we need a team, nevermind a squad, far too many weak links we've ended up with. Whoever gets 4th this year will definitely be a case of least shit.

At work tonight so only half seen the game, but between Sanchez and Royal we look so vulnerable down the left hand side. Sanchez has previous in cases like this, he is probably trying to cover a bit for Royal, which means Romero is always wary of what Sanchez will do, in turn making him look poor at times.
If the stat is true that both Sachez and Royal gave the ball away 17 times each then there has to be changes for the Wolves game, I thought I would never say it but I would have Doherty ahead of Royal at this point in time.
All Contes good teams were built on solid defences, you cannot have that with Royal and Sanchez in the starting 11.

We are a side that doesn't like being pressed. So that's what sides do to us.
There is little risk for them as winks and hojbjerg just naturally fall back deep and if they get the ball, they are uncomfortable, and their instinct is to pass it back or square, rather than threading a pass or carrying it forward at speed.
We are constipated. It has been a long running problem.

Royal proved his critics right today - 3/10.
Conte's first rage - 7/10
Bald bouncer guy - 2/10. This was his big moment to look threatening, and start randomly crushing people, but instead looked confused and disinterested.

Lloris - 8/10, made many decent saves.

When we had the likes Moussa Dembele and Modric no one could boss us.

When we had Toby and Jan nobody could boss us

Eriksen never thought of passing sideways or backwards. It wasn't in his rulebook

We don't have enough bullies, we don't have enough aggression, we don't have the swagger, we don't have the players to do it

This isn't Conte's fault. He can only work with what he has. I hope he stays and transforms the club. It would be a mini miracle if we get fourth.

As for the match, we were played off the park easily. Pierre is all huff and puff, he's just another Michael Brown or Freund. Winks hasn't got the balls or ability to play it forward enough.

Davison has improved for a while but we see the panic button a few times in the match. Royal was utter garbage, infact it sums up our right back situation for over five years. We creamed ourselves over a 50m sale of Walker, but look what he's done since and where has it got us? Davies was Davies, he's bang average. How is he still at Spurs?

Kane I though was excellent when he got the ball and played some beautiful passes. If only we had 4 Kane's on the pitch we would be a brilliant team

Sonny was decent, Moura was frustrating and excellent all rolled into one, I still can't work him out

Bentacur looked excellent on the ball. I'm excited to see if this is a normal performance

Kulusevski looked slower than my nan, and she died thirty years ago. Can't judge him on one game though

Romero was poor last night, but I have seen more than enough of him to know he is a top top player.

Royal was poor last night, and I have seen more than enough of him .

Winks, Sanchez and Emerson absolutely must be dropped for the next match.

We defend as a team, when you play with WBS u depend on your midfielders to cover. We simply don’t control the ball, we have not one midfielder comfortable on the ball, never mind under pressure, Southampton walked though us at home.
I agree with this. Conte’s preferred system does not work with Hojberg and Winks, they don’t have the skill set required. The quality of the wingbacks is a liability as well.

yeah but Traore wouldn't have fallen over his own feet constantly and would have beaten the press and got us up the pitch. Emerson offer nothing at all if he isnt defensively solid. He has one option in possesion and that's to pass back inside into the press. He isn't the only one though Hojbjerg and Sanchez are headless chickens when pressed total composure vacuum.

Falls apart if your WBs and CBs stand off all bloody game. More than once Winks could be seen screaming at Emerson and Sanchez to push up. They just switch off all the time.
I think the problem was the changes in the back 3 totally disorientated our less capable players, in terms of handing over runners and where the defensive line should be. This was compounded by very intelligent movement (and aggression) from Southampton and their far superior midfield. Sanchez in particular looked confused and caught 'in between' the entire game, and was then rattled whenever he swung a boot at the ball.

Winks cannot play in a CM 2 period. He is not good enough defensively or tactically intelligent enough. Højbjerg had a nightmare game in possession and has been out of form since Xmas. I think this could be a watershed moment for Conte when he realises he needs to play 3 CMs, similar to when his Chelsea team got beat 3-0 away at Arsenal (and ironically he changed their system to a 3-4-3). He must also realise that he needs better defenders if he wants to play with 3 at the back (2 x CBs, 1 x LWB, 1 x RWB).

Put Dier and Skipp back in that team for Winks and Sanchez and we're better. Add in Bentancur as a third CM and we'll be multitudes better. But buy two elite CBs (De Vrij and Romagnoli or Pau Torres), a deep lying playmaker (like Brozovic), and WBs who can actually cross the ball and shoot, and we'll be a totally different team
