Who was it that we were abusing? I couldn't see, not make out the words. Someone in the east upper/se corner.

There were loads of chants aimed at them, "sacked in the morning", "we'll ring you tommorrow"

Mike Parry from Talksport.

Thanks for clearing that up, wonder if he was sitting with Hawksbee?

What's he done then? I don't listen to talkshite
Sounded like one of the Stewards. Thought i heard the name Barry:shrug:

There was one "You've never seen Barry with a girl" but I can't see it being one of the stewards.

Edit:Ah Parry!

It was Talksports Mike Parry as posted earlier. He was in the East stand in a box and was out of his box. He was so drunk he tried to climb out of the box and balance on the edge. One of our stewards told him to calm down. Thats when the chants of 'we're gonna phone you in the morning' and 'you're getting sacked in the morning' came from.
He is such an arrogant twat on the radio and was an embarassment tonight. What a muppet

SkySports1 at midnight I believe.

As for tonight, far more good than bad. Very encouraging regarding our depth.

Gomes pulled off 2 or 3 very good saves, one of which was from Hutton, and must be praised for our clean sheet. 7

Hutton possibly had his best game for us. Certainly since his first month at the club. He anticipated well, marked well, tackled well. He also overlapped brilliantly and linked up very nicely with Bentley. 7.5

Ekotto was his usual self. He was pretty good but he could have done better when he had crossing opportunities and Bassong had to bail him out once or twice. 6.5

Bassong played very well in my opinion. Fast, strong, read things well, covered very nicely. Proved that he is capable against very good strikers even without King holding his hand. Pleasing. 7.5

Dawson was good tonight. He gave away his usual selection of free kicks, but he was so brave, throwing his body in the way of everything. He also won his headers well. Distribution was poor, but what Daws might lack in technique, he more than makes up for with determination. 7

Bentley had his best game for us. He linked well with Keane, Hutton and Huddlestone, put in many good crosses and through balls and even had a successful dribble or two. If Lennon is facing a spell on the sidelines, and Bentley makes this his standard, we'll have some wonderful competition for that right hand berth. 8.5

Bale looked class, especially in the second half (we seemed to only want to ping the ball at his head in the first half). He dribbled well, crossed well, was clever on the turn, protected Ekotto, I can't really complain about him at all. Deserved an assist for his drag back to Pav, and really looked dangerous. Long may it continue, he's a real talent. 8

Huddlestone had a poor first half in my opinion. Yes, he scored, but he hit a few sloppy passes and miscontrolled a fair few times. Much better in the second half, he found some confidence because his passing was back. He still took his time when deciding what to do a bit too often. 7

Palacios was superb. Good tackling, good dribbling, good passing, he is our heartbeat and I love him. 7.5

Keane was involved, which is a start, but his passing and finishing were both poor tonight. I also cannot remember the last time he was offside so much. However, he was constantly in the game, and after missing the pen (which he won) he was at least at hand to score after the ball had bounced around the area. A better second half and some was part of some good moves, including the build up for the first goal in the first half. 6.5

Pavlyuchenko worked his socks off, his touch was ok and he definitely improved when we took the lead. He just seems devoid of confidence in front of goal. He had some good opportunities tonight, not least from a great Bale drag back, but strikers especially need game time to stay sharp. 6

Very good summary.

I agree with 90% of your comments. Especially Bale, Hudd (awful 1st half but superb 2nd), Hutton and of course the highly impressive Bentley,
I thought Dawson was immense. He kept winning headers (yes he gave away free kicks) put his body on the line with a tremendous block from Saha in the first half.
I thought Keane was superb tonight. If only he had his shooting boots on he could have had 3 at least. He has Distin and Heitinga in all sorts of trouble and created space for Pav who should have done better.
I thought Pav was trying too hard. If one of his efforts went in I think he would have relaxed and could have had more.

I was expecting a much weaker team from Everton but it was almost their 1st team and we played them off the pitch.
Thought they looked more dangerous with Jo, who gave us some problems but Cahill was pretty anonymous which is always a good sign.
Very happy tonight.
Bring on the highlights

I have to disagree, Mike Parry is an absolute legend and comedy genius. The best thing on Talksport by a mile.

Brazil and Irani can irritate sometimes as can Adrian Durham but Hawksbee, Jacobs, Parry and Townsend are worth listening to.

the thing with Parry is that he is an absolute liar of the highest order! he Lives in sutton (quite near me) and always refers to the fact that he lives in "stock brocker belt Epsom". i see him from time to time but the last time i saw him was in Dominos pizza in sutton where he was waiting for an extra large hawaiian pizza (deep pan) - the next day on the radio he was spouting on about his lovelly meal out that he had in london the previous evening!!

also he drives/drove a car with the number plate "Roon3y"

I thought that we were far better down the flanks last night and we got more and better crosses in as well as getting all the way down to the by line far more than when Lennon plays.
Hutton gave us far more dynamism down the right than we have with Corluka in fact when Lennon switches to the left the right just dies.
I thought the balance was better with Bentley and Bale giving us width on both sides so does this mean Hutton-Bentley is a better combination than Corluka-Lennon? Not necessarily but it is with a shadow of a doubt a bloody good option that we perhaps ought to use more often.
I am hoping Pav's performance was down to hislack of match practice, he put in a shift but looked pretty poor and right off the pace mind you he did improve as the game went on so I'll give him the benefit ofthe doubt.

Surprised you've given Hutton such a high score. His poor judgement almost lead to him scoring an own goal. Perhaps it was Gomes poor communication but none of our other defenders have this problem with Gomes. Hutton also had a communication breakdown with Cuddici so I am pretty sure its Hutton.

Gomes and Hutton need to be locked in a room together for a 24 hours before Hutton is allowed to play again. It doesn't matter how good he is going forward if he doesn't listen to his keeper he will make stupid mistakes and so shouldn't play.

As other members will testify, nobody around here has been laying into Hutton more than I have, but last night I saw him make several good clearances and tackles when we were under pressure, offer a good attacking threat overlapping Bentley, control the ball well, not lose possession and even play good passes. He made on mistake, but then so did Bassong when Jo murdered him and Ekotto, so did Gomes with a few sloppy throws and kicks, so did Huddlestone with a few sloppy passes and so did Bentley with a couple of moments of selfishness later on.

Every player for every team is likely to make a mistake at some point in a match. If it is just the one, and if it is not costly, then it is forgivable. Work on it in training and move on. Hutton played very well and I'm not so small that I can't admit it, despite my previous heavy criticism of him.

IMO there is a difference between defensive lapses which allow an opening and putting the ball in the net yourself (in this case almost literally). Perhaps he still deserves a good score but in pretty much every game he has appeared in this season he has handed the opposition an opportunity due to poor communication with the keeper. Everyone is allowed to make mistakes but doing this every every game is not good enough, because near enough a goal every game is a big impact.

Perhaps he needs to get his ears checked but there is something that needs sorting there. Sounds like there are encouraging signs that he is rebuilding his game - cheers for the report
