Real Madrid refuse to let Kovacic leave despite player's protests

Real Madrid have got a problem with Mateo Kovacic. As far as the club is concerned, he is an important member of the squad and a player with a future (he's still only 24), but the Croatian sees things very differently - he wants to leave Madrid this summer.

Doesn't sound like a goer does it. Plus seems it's all on hold until he returns on the 5th August!

What if we send them a nicely worded letter from all the Spurs fans saying "Please let Spurs buy Kovacic"?

I just don't understand why they're firm on Kovacic out of every player, James got to leave when he wanted, freaking Ronaldo just got sold. Whats the hold up on Kovacic? Especially when he plays in their most stacked position.

Modric successor maybe. 33 this year, he won't last forever.

Because there's a slim possibility we might want him and nothing we get involved with is ever easy

I certainly don't disagree but thats sort of always been their reputation right?
It was and I think they work hard to maintain that reputation but it's been 4 years or so since they really blew their budget to sign some superstars. I don't think they are the financial force they used to be. Could be wrong.

Just do what I do on Football Manager imo, loan him in and keep extending his loan for the next season over and over again until his contract runs out and you sign him on a free. Come on Daniel fella, not hard

I really do worry that we won't get a CM of adequate ability to be a starter. I would happily ditch Zaha, Martial or whoever and put that money into Thiago (as he's supposedly available) or try and get Kovacic. Who I still reckon will be/is available. Dembele staying does worry me as I can see Levy using it as an excuse not to upgrade. Until yesterday, I really believed Levy was going to wait until the last day of the window and try and get Gomes for a loan with a small buy option. Now he's injured I reckon that's off the cards. But I don't see Levy spending 60 odd mil on a WF and 40/50 on a CM. It won't happen. IF, and it is a massive if when it comes to Levy, we spend north of 50 then it will only be on one player IMO and any other deals will likely be in the 20 to 35 mark.

One would also assume the closer we get to D Day then the less English based players will be available. Really, Martial will be the only last minute local deal we, or someone else, may get done. I would think.

Don't read much into release clauses. All contracts in Spain have to have them so clubs generally set them astronomically high on purpose.

The suggestion is that his value would be around the 70m - 80m euros mark. Not cheap.

For the record, GFFN is reporting that we've opened discussions with Valencia for Kondogbia even though he only just moved there after a season on loan from Inter last year. Weird.

It's definitely a putting you off your interest amount of money quote. If our transfer window lined up with the Spanish one and we had time to push it maybe but seems too short a deadline and we wouldn't be the only interested party if he decided to aggressively force his way out.

Kondogbia is a weird link. Rumors were Valencia were struggling to come up with the funds to trigger their buy option on him after his loan, which they just managed, and we wanted to take advantage of it if they failed. Now they still need money but he would probably be an expensive (too expensive?) get.

Still stuck on wait and see mode I suppose.
