All coming down to the last game of the season. FC Twente are a point ahead of Ajax but Ajax have superior goal difference.

FC Twente go away to NAC while Ajax go away to NEC on 2nd May.

I honestly can't see Twente slipping up, although NAC did hold Ajax. Losing to Utrecht back in December is what buggered Martin. Second Choice Steve has done a great job.

Sounds like it'll be a good final day of the season in Holland. Fair play to McClaren.

Well done Twente, great to see a small club like that overcome the psv's and Ajax's. Great achievement for them and Mcclaren.

Congrats ginger Steve. 2 or 3 more seasons of experience and success abroad and he could be a candidate for one of the top jobs in England.

I hope more British coaches take the initiative and get some experience abroad. Too many are getting lost in the Premiership mid-table mix to really make a name for themselves.

Too true, when Man U are looking for someone to take over from Fergie they're going to look for a manger who has won things not just done well on a limited budget.

It really is an impressive achievement. It's only their 2nd league title and 4th overall in the club's history. They were runners up last season aswell.

Exactly. The likes of Bruce, Keane and Hughes get mentionned as future successors to SAF. It won't or at least shouldn't happen until they've achieved something real. The Premiership is becoming less competitive and there's almost zero chance of Sunderland achieving more than a top six finish one day and if they get lucky an FA Cup win. These guys should try their hand abroad.

It was his fake Dutch accent that did it.

He has always been a good coach as people have said and the players surely have to take some of the brunt for England's failures under him, though he was clearly not suitable. Also, look at the direction Boro took since he left.

Congrats.

Apparently this is the first English manager to win a major European League title since Bobby Robson won with Porto in 1996 :eek:mg:

Well done.
Was going to point out Hodgson won danish league in 2001, although that isn't exactly a major European league...

But agree with fact that it's so rare to see a british manager going abroad, but it's the same with players. Feel certain players would benefit from going abroad. Guessing comes down to a mixture of money, learning a new language. The alleged Rush quote "It's like living in a foreign country."

If rumours of Wolfsburg are true, then will be quite exciting as will have much larger budget and german league is lot more competitive than dutch.

Don't forget Robson was hounded out of the England job much like McClaren! I would like to see more English coaches (And players for that matter) to play abroad, it can only benefit the nationla team in the long wrong.
Well done to McClaren though, he was out of his depth at International level but he has shown what a good coach he is once again.

Clearly a very capable manager and always has been. Foolish to have taken the England job so (relatively) early in his coaching career. He is, in a strange way, somewhat of a role model in football having displayed tremendous resilliance and self belief after suffering merciless ridicule. I take my hat off to the man.
