Michael Dawson Championship level

As much as I like Michael Dawson as a person, I've watched spurs home and away for the last 10 games and he has been found wanting in every one of those games. It might only have been once or twice in each game but they have all been big mistakes. He is struggling to lead the line and he doesn't talk to this fullbacks. Did you see the distance between himself and walker in the west brim game. Any bit of pace against him makes him look clumsy and slow. Dawson try's to defend flat footed against the likes of Suarez, aguero, Lallana etc and the margin for error is so small that if you don't win the ball the attacking player is through on goal. At least vertongen(I know he's injured), defends side on and can deal with pace.

The premiership has moved on in the last 5 years, if you are a very slow centre half you need to be an expert reader if the game which I'm afraid he isn't. If he had the players organised around him he might just get away with it.

That was a penalty today against Stoke, he was very lucky.

Michael Dawson has to go and if he stays in hone team after vertongen returns we will leak lots more goals.

Top bloke though and he's been a great servant to thfc

Not sure that was a penalty - it looked like one at the game but when I saw it on MOTD, it looked like the ball took a slight change of direction after Dawson's challenge, meaning he got the ball.

We've had lots of anti Dawson threads but today was his best game for us for a long time, he doesn't deserve this kind of thread today. One of his diagonals even came off!

Overall though, if all our defenders were fit, he wouldn't be first choice. He's certainly a leader though and a great back up if needed. Plus with our injury record with defenders, you couldn't ask for a better back up. He's another player who will benefit from not playing a high line - no coincidence that today was probably his best game all season.

And he has a nice side parting.

Have no problem with him being a back up option for us.
The issue for me is that he this season has been almost every present,
if we're going to win the league or even finish regulary in the top 4 then that's not good enough.
We need guys like Kaboul and Vertonghen starting (King and Woodgate if you look to our recent past).
So thinking of transfers, it's not so much that we got to get rid of Dawson.
It's more that we need two left backs the manager trust, so that Vertonghen doesn't have to play out of position.
And we need to have a serious look at Kaboul, his fitness and what he can bring to the table in coming years.

Looked like a pen to me on Assiadi I think it was. Definitely shouldn't be a starter for us but generally seems like a nice guy and feels the pain when we lose. Just not top drawer, when he was next to King his deficiencies were covered up. Makes some great last minute blocks sometimes but I think we'll need someone better to come in and partner Verts when he's back or let Vlad play there.

christ knows how many divisions you are going to relegate Chiriches to if you are using evidence from the west brom game.

The scottish premiership i guess.

There's enough threads criticising Dawson and he had a good game yesterday so don't like the title or timing of this thread.

I believe if fully-fit Kaboul and Vertonghen are our 1st choice centre backs with Chiriches a close 3rd. Capoue can fit into the defence when needed.

Dawson should be 5th choice but with injuries to Kaboul and Capoue and BAE on loan so Vertonghen covering left back Dawson has needed to play.

Like Defoe I think Dawson is coming to an end to his Spurs career. But I believe several Premiership clubs will happily take him as a 1st choice centre back if we make him available.

Why did we sell Caulker?! Better have put a buy back clause in there.

Daws is great but has exceeded his level. Needs an experienced head next to him and is struggling now he is that experienced head!

Definitely move him on in the summer, he can still have an excellent PL career.

Hard to be too crticial of Dawson, or his selection. We have nobody else available. When Jan is fit, it will be up to Vlad and Dawson to fight for the 2nd CB spot on merit.

That's two decent games in row.
We would have been in deep trouble
had he not been available over the past few weeks.

"Has to go?" This statement get's on my tits. Why does he "have to go"? Because he's not as quick as he was?

Fans are so fast to jump on a player for not showing loyalty after they've played for us for a few years and then want to go off to another club. But one of our most loyal and devoted captains struggles for a few games and it's "get rid of him!" just like that.

Jokers.

For a few games? He's hasn't been good enough to play for us for years. That's why he has to go.

According to Windy the primary reason for the Caulker sale was for non footballing reasons
