What's new

Michael Oliver has awarded more Premier League penalties against Jose Mourinho's teams than any referee, with one every 3.5 games

I wholeheartedly agree with you, however, I do know that the main reason for not putting mics on refs is more to do with the foul language used by the players.

Football is practically the only sport that I'm aware of where the players are "encouraged" to question the officials and in some circumstances intimidate them during the cours of a match. I'm not surprised the officiating decisions are so poor. When was the last time you heard pundits and fans criticising the decision of a rugby ref?
Just over 2 weeks ago, the French referee in the England v Wales rugby. He had the sort of match that would have made Oliver blush! (After the match, he admitted to the press that he got 2 crucial decisions wrong, something you'll never see a PL referee do.)

I roll my eyes when the commentator is apologising for language that may have been heard. Its a football match, put the warning before the game starts and nothing else needs to be said.

I generally mutter 'oh, f*** off' at the screen. It's pointless, but it makes me feel better.

It's more likely when you've got average and clumsy defenders, that's for sure.

I don't really care if the players swear but I can imagine those watching with children might be. But to be honest I don't know why players should need to swear. If they don't allow it in any other sport why should footballers be the exception

The ref should only deal with bread and butter calls, all big decisions should be left to VAR. The ref can call the decisions
