The 4231 system is becoming outdated so where would an eriksen type player fit into a 433/343.

A good player can play in any system - midfield players don't really have to tackle any more you can waltz through a modern game of football really - midfield used to be the battle ground but nowadays its often empty.

I do wonder if a team setup to play direct football playing a straight forward 4-4-2 with a big man up front and a couple of aggressive midfield players how they would fair in todays football which is all a bit samey - as all the managers try to emulate Guardiola - it was funny hearing Lampard moaning the other night that Spurs beat the press by being direct like it wasn't a legitimate tactic.

I think I’m the only one who’s not that bothered. Not coz I think he’s average or whatever (I’ve never seen him) I’m sure he’s a very good player, it’s just that this window has been so good and I never really saw CB as a urgent area to recruit in this window.

Obviously it’s always a bit annoying not to get a player that the manager wants but assuming we wrap up this striker finishing the window with him, Doherty, Hoijberg, Sergio and Bale is pretty fucking good.

Before the window opened I said to myself I’d be happy with just a RB and a DMF and I think if you reeled off the above names to all of us a month or so ago we would’ve all been delighted and would probably think obtaining all those names would be wildly optimistic.

If we can get this defender then great if not I’m not going to lose any sleep.

Leicester did and they won the title. Osaki (can’t remember his name) was their big man up front

If I were to nit-pick I'd say we still need another DM, but that will have to wait 'til next window/ next season. Ship out Sissoko and bring in a good DM to rotate / compete with Hojbjerg. Apart from that the squad is looking good.
I think the plan is for Skipp to play this role next year.

He's 5ft 7, I think you mean the Leonardo Ullure/Ullore/whatever fella.
Vardy was the furthest forward for them the Japanese fella played just behind him.

They were direct but sat deep played the ball into space for Vardy

We're in a staring contest with Inter at the moment[ waiting to see who blinks so while we're waiting we went about finalising the striker deal, it seems that's pretty well a done deal now so we'll get back to renewing the pressure on Inter and we've still got five days to go.
So far this window we've got all our targets so I don't see the club losing out on this one at all, I just don't see it. I think we're playing a blinder to be honest.

Would certainly give us an advantage in a staring contest.

SSN are reporting that the chairman has reiterated that Skriniar isn’t leaving this window. Obviously doesn’t mean it won’t happen but it’s a new statement as of around 15 mins ago.

Its starting to look like this one wont be happening. Hopefully its just posturing from Inter and the deal can still be done.

It’s definitely posturing. If he wasn’t for sale, as that Inter chap claims, we wouldn’t have held protracted, face to face meetings with them over the past week or so.

The only doubt is whether an acceptable compromise can be found.

Except for central midfield. Still need a DM. But this guy can play there if required.
Its pretty close to an amazing window if both Vinicuis and Skriniar are confirmed.

Imo, another DM and a creative mid and a few outs and its a perfectly rounded squad

I was watching it and they said the DOF and he's said it before then they carried on negotiating. I haven't heard that the chairman has said the same thing though.

Yeah he was! He was terrible though so I always think of the other guy running around doing what a big lump usually does.

But what I do know is if we get Skriniar I will be over the moon. I don’t even care if he flops. This transfer window was truly brave! (Sorry Poch)

I disagree with the DM importance now. I understand the idea of a creative midfielder more so.

If you look at Hojbjerg I think technique wise he’s a better version of sissoko otherwise they are quite similar. Personally I think that’s the type of DM mourinho wants. Both like a poor mans Kante (really poor).

If we can control the ball better with midfield I don’t think we want someone else to sit in front of defence. And to keep it on topic, with an improved defensive of Skriniar (hoping), Reguilon and Doherty I think the whole team will feel more solid. I also expect to see pressing being more relentless and further up the pitch something a traditional DM doesn’t do.

Agreed very good window... I think a No. 10 Eriksen type would make a perfect window and ITK have said it is a possibility also if we get the other targets..

I'm sure I read ITK alluding to a creative midfielder that is UK based, probably David Brooks? I think that would only happen if Alli leaves.
Skriniar would be a great signing and would complete a great transformation of our defence. I am surprised Chelsea would even consider loaning Rudiger to us at all.

Yeah it could’ve been the sporting director. Whoever it was said something along the lines of not leaving this window. It was ‘breaking news’ ? on the transfer show they do. I wasn’t really paying attention but my ears perked up when they mentioned it.
