We should remember that players like Shakiri aren't overly mobile & fast but always seem to appear in top teams. Pjanic could well fulfill that role for us.

Totally different positions and Shaqiri has been largely useless at Liverpool and Bayern.

I love Spurs fans. Moan that the club isn't ambitious enough and should spend more to get the quality in. Then moan the money is too much for a player who will undoubtedly improve us. There are signings you just flat out forget about the sell on value, but think about the on pitch improvements. Pjanic will bring that and 31 is definitely not too old.

Barcelona might be desperate enough to get him off their wage bill that they'd be prepared to subsidise some of his wages. Given that he's refused to end his contract they would be due to pay him compensation anyway, so why not put in a cheeky loan bid to help them move a unwanted player?

Just heard on talkshite how much obscene debt Barca are in and they have to remove players like panjic from the payroll. It’s rumoured he is on £250k a week also probably net.

We should spend our money elsewhere before helping out Barca with their debt problems.
City might actually replace Sergio Aguero with Sergio Aguero & Lionel Messi?

They may let him go for free but he won’t be walking away from his contract, as soon as he does that his hand is weakened when he wants to find a new club.

exactly. Pjanic won’t command a higher wage as a free agent so he won’t agree to mutually terminate. If Barca really need to get rid of him they will probably have to subsidize his wages a bit as part of a loan or free transfer unless a club is willing to pay him his whole wage.

But some of us aren't convinced that he will undoubtedly improve us.

And the argument on my behalf isn't spend spend spend. It's are we utilizing our budget the most effective way possible. IMO, I'm unconvinced Pjanic would be the best use of available funds. If it had zero effect on what else we would do in midfield I'd be all for it but if we're bringing in only one midfielder I'd like to explore other options.

Sissoko and Winks for Pjanic - excellent trimming of the squad and yet adding talent. Really hope we can tie this down.

Oooh, that’s really, really good... ?

(if it is in fact a ‘Hitchhiker’s GTTG’ reference :))

I think it might be an answer to the post above it.

Sorry to dent your happiness.

A player with Pjanic's ability and experience in the middle of the park for us would make an enormous difference. If we can get him it could be an inspired signing.

Moving Winks and Sissoko out to accommodate Skipp and Pjanic would be a huge upgrade in quality for our Central Midfield.

That being said it would result in most of our CMs being pretty small on average.

£200m (£3.85m p.w.) must be media sensationalism. It's over 80% of their total wage bill (reportedly £238m).

To put it in context, the remaining £38m would be a smaller wage bill than Brighton! They'd have £731k per week to pay a full squad - that's an average of only £29k per player. Every single player in their current starting XI earns significantly more than an 11th of £731k, let alone a 25th, so they would need to either sell all of them or pick several to play with a squad of completely unknown and unproven teenagers from their youth team.

Doesn't sound quite plausible...

Their wage bill last year was apparently £565m. With that figure the £200m does make sense.

Not sure where the £238m figure came from, that’s only £57m more than us and only £13m more than Arsenal. Considering messi was seemingly on £61m alone, that £238m figure means minus Messi they’d have a wage bill less than ours!
