The new MLS crest embodies and represents the next phase of Major League Soccer's vision to be among the best leagues in the world by 2022.

WORDMARK: MLS stands for Major League Soccer.

SLASH: The slash refers to soccer's speed and energy. The slash begins outside the perimeter and drives upward at a 45-degree angle to illustrate both the nonstop nature of our game and the rising trajectory of our league. It bisects the crest to create a "first half" and "second half."

STARS: The three stars represent the pillars of our brand: For Club, For Country, For Community.

PERIMETER: The perimeter represents the lines that mark off the field of play.

FIRST HALF AND SECOND HALF: The first half contains MLS and the three stars. The second half is an open white space that brings you in and out of the MLS world.

I like the idea how each club will have its own version of the logo in their colours, but think that the logo itself looks awful. Looks too bland and the 'tail' looks so dumb

New logo....
great idea..... but something that looks so generic as if it came out of one of those fantasy football sims..... not a good idea.

oh some nice jokes here....

a couple of nice ones... like the logo is showing how half the stadiums are filled, or how much the DP are making as compared to the rest.

Did they even contract a proper graphic design company, or was it just the CEO's son mucking around on Microsoft Paint? My money is on the son frankly.

I like the kickstand so they can sell merchandise that doesn't fall over!

Anything with the word or nod to "soccer" is a wrongun. Give me girl on girl soccermummilfvalleygirl action and I'll not watch it, it's football, no substitutes.

On the plus side it's better than the old logo for the digital age (clean lines) the worst thing from a design perspective (ignoring the strange tail for a moment) is the shading on the main logo that isn't there for the club ones (not needed and will cause a big pain for them unless they intend it to be a 3D or animated 'shine' effect).

Personally I'd have gone for the top right one as the league logo as it's more in line with the american flag and other major sports in the US like NBA, NFL or MLB.

Having the big white space will be perceived as blank or empty by many and their description doesn't make any sense (the pitch isn't that shape and why are the two halves are different shapes/sizes?!?!?!?!).

They could have said that it's a representation of how MLS isn't just about what happens on the field of play, it represents how the MLS community extends beyond the boundries of the pitch to support and hold up our sport.

Good luck to them thou, hope it helps spread the message of soccer over in the US to a more mainstream audience.
