i see your point. me personally would like an iron man next to modric to bully teams and snap as few legs if we are going for a 442 without jj or zoko

Agree, or someone who is very disciplined (or both). I think and hope we will see a big improvement on JJ and Zoko before the start of the season anyway, but their athleticism is always a useful string in our bow.

i have a feeling that jenas is going to be a big part of ramos's midfield tho, i just cant fit him in unless we play 5 across the middle or put jj on the right, so many options eh:shrug:

From the noises being made he is most likely to be about but probably not a starter (in the best XI). It also seems that from the signings we have made that Ramos is particularly focussing on improving the technical ability in our midfield having specifically mentioning it after both the Dos Santos signing and recently after Modric's performances in the Euros. Combined with our apparent chase of Bentley it seems he wants players who are slightly more gifted on the ball than the players we currently have. Jenas whilst being a very good player, quite often can be a little clumsy on the ball, his first touch isn't that great and he isn't particularly creative. What he does offer is a fantastic engine, dynamism in the midfield and a goal scoring threat from the midfield. I imagine he will be a very useful player next season and will get plenty of football.

It's also worth noting that in the last two seasons we have played about 619 different midfield combinations (artistic license) for various reasons (injuries, suspensions, loss of form, particular opponents) so I don't see that there will be a cast iron 4 or 5. While I think we will have a more consistent midfield than the last two seasons and we have already improved the quality of our midfield options, Jenas will undoubtedly be involved.

Some might say that 4-2-3-1 is a fancy way of saying 4-4-2 with the striker dropping deep and two holding players.

Semantics, as I said!

Just go retro with 3-3-4, I say. Then it doesn't matter if we only have one fit CB. Or how about 4-2-4!

Split Spanish Double Pivot

im not sure if thats the name of a dive or a sex position??

4-2-4, if only all teams still played it. outside forward, inside forward, brilliant stuff

When considering height, i'd like to point to how well Spain are doing with their small midfield. I'd also like to point out that we have 4 tall defenders in Hutton, King, Woodgate and Bale. Plus, the centre backs often come out to challenge for high balls down the middle. So personally i dont think height is an issue. I'd be very happy with a Davids type of defensive midfielder alongside Modric, and Bentley and Giovani out wide, and Malbranqu and Lennon for competition. If we need height in there, we can always bring on Thudd. ie - against Bolton.

HEY my guys!! Im French fan of spurs and modric.

I'm sorry but I dont see how Modric can be clased as a DM, the best part of his game is his creativity, little inticate passes and defence splitting balls as well as getting forward to support the strikers.

You are in right , Modric its number 10 , but in Croatia bilic use him in DM because i dont have other good DM.

If Ramos use Modric in play maker , we plays for the tittle for sure.

Gomes
hutton woodgate king Bale

huddlestone

Lennon Modric Dos santos

Keane Berbatov

obviosuly this assuming we hold on to the big man...id love to see taarabt too..i like lennon too much for him to be dropped and his form towards the end of last season was immense.. modric shouldnt be played too deep..although effective wherever, his playmaking (assists and through balls for craotia)were immense.. the hudd for me needs experience and matches..and keane berba were the highest scoring strike partnership in the league last year so!....

saying we were to buy no more players now and we had to line up for the start of the season i think id us modric as a holding mid with a bit of a licence to roam....ere we go

................robinson...................

hutton.....king...woodgate...bale

................modric................

........zokora.......jenas.......

lennon.........................dos santos

..............berbatov................

i think those 3 in the middle zoko and jj breaking up the play
with modric (who is sturdy in the tackle too) spreading the balls like utterly butterly on hot toast, we'd look impressive, gio and azza bursting down the wings and berbs playing like he did at whl against bolton would be imporessive

I haven't looked at any more posts, so I am sure people have said what I am just about to say. can anybody remember out two best players last season as voted by the supporters.

1) Robbie Keane
2) Steed Malbronque

Can you see them in the line up ?

Nice to see you have included the Zakors (NOT)

Well as I've said elsewhere - I don't think we will play Modric GDS & Lennon together in the same mid except occasionally - they certainly won't be in our main starting 4 IMHO

I've offered this bet in various threads, you can pick either GDS or Lennon and I'll back JJ to start more times than either at evens.

(We're talking virtual cash of course as it's backing one's judgement that's the point here, not trying to get money out of fellow members, or even them out of me :)

Indeed you can have the pair of them if you give me 6/4 that JJ will have more starts than either

Given JJ's relatively good fitness record I'll also take 7/4 he'll start more than Modric, though clearly ATM Modric is our main mid man

Over the last 2 seasons JJ has been our best mid and I think he will show sufficient improvement in what should be an improved team/squad to make plenty of starts, sufficient to be seen as part of our first XI- and when the big games come, if fit, he'll be one of the starters
he'll start
