I still don't understand the logic of buying the corner pin when every other property we've brought has been North of the existing stadium or on the same block, presuming we're not re-routing Park Lane, what will The Corner Pin be used for? Is it just a case of it being on the market at a reasonable price and the club thinking 'why not'? Or is it part of some grander scheme? Shop? Offices? Just extra housing development?

As far as I know, or what I was told by the guvnor of the two brewers, it will be re-opened.

My assumption is that as it was on the market, they decided to buy it as it normally does a good trade on match days, the thinking being if you can't persuade the majority to drink beer inside the ground before the game, may as well make money outside.

Any chance they'll buy the Bell and Hare and give it a lick of paint? :)

Nooooooooo! Keep the B&H as it is! It's a genuine time capsule. All it needs is some decent bitter on draught.

Ah that makes sense... infact, I don't get why the club (and other clubs) don't do it already! (or do they?)

Thanks for the update BOF, any information on the financial aspects? Do we actually have the funding in place? I got the impression this may be one of the reasons why the announcement was delayed from 1st Half 2008 as they originally planned?

Ah, in the same way we went to Seville to "have a fact-finding mission and look at the way the club is run" or whatever

Hot off the press, so to speak.

The amended planning application will go the council in September. Expect it to be rubber stamped with minimal discussion.

We have, as Robofan said, exercised our option on the Wingate Estate, so we now own everything bar the JW Kingdom Hall and the sheet metal works. The club is looking to buy the old houses next door to the Sports Centre across the High Road and and build the JWs a new church in the back gardens there. The bloke who owns the sheet metal works may need some more muscle exerted—if it comes to it, the club will apply for a CP Order. The club has also bought the Corner Pin.

Once the new stadium is completed the existing ground will be used for housing and a big new Sainsbury's. We may be doing some kind of deal with Sainsbury's whereby we take over the existing site for a housing development which will part-finance the new ground, but that's very speculative.

So, nothing earth-shattering, basically confirmation and clarification of what's already been posted, but it's looking good.

:shhh: thats supposed to be a secret

cant pinpoint where they think sainsburys comes in though

but good call SS57 :hump:

New stadium and CL football are the too big targets, and its good to see we are doing our up most to achieve both of them.

If we dont have to move from WHL I will be cock-a-hoop

Cheers for the info SS57, If you're lying you're dead to me!

Robofan, are you claiming sainsbury's won't be built on the old site or you haven't heard anything?

I don't know what they're going to do WRT the transport nightmare though. If we can't fix that, it almost makes rebuilding pointless. If we're going to build a big stadium at the wingate, why not plonk it somewhere near a tube station or decent train line?

I think the Corner Pin went unsecret some posts back—there was just some doubt as to whether the club or the bloke who owns (or rather owned) Rudolph's had bought it.

As far as Sainsbury's goes, it is, as I said, highly speculative, at least as far as the future of the current Sainsbury's site is concerned. However, it seems pretty certain that a much bigger store will be part of the redevelopment of the existing ground. It could also incorporate a new sports centre to replace the crappy old one across the road, but again that's speculation.

haven't heard or seen any ref to it, but thats not to say it does not exist

the transport situation was at the forefront of any proposal/planning and IMHO this has been completely resolved - there is no point in imagining the area as it is now, put it totally out of your mind.

Pffff... the transports fine!

WHAT! The nearest tube station is 20 minutes walk away and how many times is the Victoria line closed in that area!! The amount of times that ive had to take alternative forms of transport and wait ages for a bus is ridiculous. It needs at least another tube station if we are going to significantly increase the capacity. Or have a special shuttle service from Seven Sisters tube Station to the stadium. It is the worst stadium to get to ever and its in London, thats so bad!

It's crap now, imagine how it'll be with twice the number of people!

Can private companies apply/request a CP order? I thought that was only for government projects?
Arsenal did it when they built the Emirates.

Islington Council did it on behalf of the Scum. If the guy refuses to budge he won't be allowed to hold up the whole project.

As far as the public transport is concerned, the problem has been that most of our games are on a Sunday, when the local service on the Enfield line is reduced and the one through Northumberland Park is non-existent. Also, because most of the bus lanes only operate Monday to Saturday, the bus services get totally snarled up in the traffic. If we can work round those there shouldn't be a difficulty. Improved public transport will mean fewer people will rely on cars, and it's cars that are the trouble.
