They have been two places below us for the let two seasons. This is why I said "effectively". I appreciate we might pay him a bit more and we are a a couple of places closer to the bog boys, but we are not that quantum career leap in footballing terms, and would also almost certainly pay him less than the four above us as well.

I appreciate we are not an exact sideways step, but for MS right now I could understand why we could be described or thought of that way, especially in footballing terms.
Pay "a bit more"

Try double to triple the wages.

If he wants Europa league he could just stay at Southampton for another year, never going to sign for us. Would have got him last year if we had met the asking price then. Another transfer failure tbh.

His decision in that interview was that he is definitely leaving Southampton, nothing else is definite or decided.
If the ITK is correct that we have met the asking price then it is only a matttakes himr of whether or not a richer club takes him, if not, we will get him.

All previous ITK, and even stories from last summer, suggest he has huge respect for Pochettino, and you just have to hope that gives us an advantage.

Spurs's 1st choice is Schneideryidlin. Scheniderlin's 1st choice is ManUtd (for whatever reason). ManUtd's first choice is Schweinsteiger. Schweinsteiger's 1st choice is unknown, but Matthaus thinks Schweinstieger should join & Beckenbauer thinks he should not.
:wacky:
So what we want, is that ManUtd gets the 1st choice, so that we get our 1st choice, who holds us as 2nd choice.

If it's true we are after kondogbia then I guess we already know that Ms won't come to us anyway. I expect him to end up at arsenal really don't see Man U being that interested.

Moan...Let's not waste time. If he wanted us, he would have signed last time! Just move on to other targets! It's Moutinho Part II again!

But we didn't meet the fee last time. We also couldn't sort out third party ownership with Moutinho.

Did anyone actually hear and verify this radio interview? I've only read it in the rags, which for me means that it is as likely manipulated bullshit than the 'truth'.

All journos are top 4 whores, bottom line, and I don't believe a word that is written.
From last year, the year he was desperate to leave Southampton for us, he said nearly the exact same thing.

But the French international has since come to terms with Southampton's decision and told RMC: "My situation was simple: at the end of the season my goal was to take the next step and join a club playing in the Champions League or the UEFA Cup.

"There were offers on the table but Southampton made a clear choice, which was to keep me after the departure of certain players.

"They look to me for the future.

"I was 'blocked' but I must accept that because I have three years remaining on my contract.

"I could not afford to make a fuss and not play. I owe a lot to Southampton, who enabled me to make the France national team.

"I could not afford to go and clash with supporters who have always been cool with me.

"It would not have cool for me to end up in an endless showdown."

----------------

One difference is that he mentions Europa league last season. The guy obviously has some interest in leaving the club, and stating that he wants to play in European competitions that Southampton are not involved in is the easy out for him. I don't believe for a second that he would still not prefer us over staying.

I don't think the Guardian can really be called a rag. Be interesting to hear if any French people have heard the interview and can translate for us exactly what he was saying.

But the quote saying “If I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League" seems pretty cut and dry.

I'm surprised that Man City are yet to come in for him. They need a couple of midfielders and a home-grown one with PL experience makes a lot of sense.

That article, which is a month old, presupposes that MS has the choice... and that in realising he may not, he doesn't then reassess his options. Looks like Arsenal may be bidding big money for William Carvalho, only rumours that Utd are interested, so what should he do?

The reason I put the post up was because one poster said:

"Schneiderlin didn't say anything of the kind. It was a random person on Twitter."

I wanted to show he had been quoted directly as saying he wants to join a club playing in the CL.

Players are only as loyal as their options. It seems pretty clear Schneiderlein is ready to leave and the club will sell for the right price. If one of the Prem sides in the CL don't make an offer and we're his best offer then I believe he would take it regardless of what he has said previously.

MS has already been quoted saying Saints wouldn't leave no matter what we bid. They didn't want to loose anymore players after they had sold Lallana, Chambers, Lambert etc..

Sorry if that doesn't fit with your anti-levy narrative.

Just going on what the ITK was last year he had a price we weren't willing to meet.

I don't recall that ITK, I remember talk about them wanting twenty odd million but that was after talking about way less than that and then going back on their word to everyone and blocking Schneiderlin's exit irrespective of the price.
He is still being respectful to them and their fans but hoping to leave, if Southampton stitch him up again they may regret it.

Wasn't that exactly, it was that they just upped the asking price that the two clubs had supposedly agreed upon. They didn't make him completely unavailable for transfer IIRC.

Could have told you that would be @L-man without looking, huge 1D fan

not the way it happened.
he refused to talk to anyone until after WC.
By the time he returned Soton had sold everyone else and fans were in uproar.
Soton then refused to sell him, reneging on their promise to let him go.
