See I think Mikel is underrated

He will become one of the best DM in the world in a year or two.

Guys, when I say that Gerrard and Lampard are average technically, I mean that they look average compared to the technically best players, i.e. to players like Zidane, Ronaldinho, Messi, Kaka, Ronaldo (and Hoddle and Waddle, if you want...) Compared to most British players, they look gifted...no doubt about that. So, much depends on the reference point. For me, their first touch and close ball controll are not what make them superior to other good midfielders.

Perhaps, but it depends if you value close control and flair over everything else. I personally think both of them have great control and first touches, coupled with brilliant awareness, a solid tackle (which most of your lit doesn't posses) and expert positioning - the right mix for a world class midifielder.

I would say lampard and gerrard have 2 or 3 attributes that your list don't possess and perhaps only 1 or 2 that they don't possess that your list does.

Agreed, he just needs to time his challenges better.

Yeh but then by the same logic if Zokora could just get his shots on target then he'd be a wicked midfielder.........

Mikel may well be a great player in a few season, but for me right now he is average and given the hype surrounding him when he joined Chelsea i'd say he's over-rated.

Petrov - not because he knocked us to go to citeh, just because he's really been nothing more than average every time i've seen him play.

Can't believe this one escaped my mind - Danny Murphy! If he was rated as the worst player in the league he'd still be over rated!!

Michael Carrick
Stuart Downing

Julio Baptista
Arjen Robben
Gareth Barry
Steven Gerrard
Frank Lampard
Jermaine Jenas
Emanuel Adebayor

I am probably forgetting alot of players in that list but thats just the ones I can think of at the moment.

Damien Duff and El Haj Diouf. Duff was good for 1 season at best and Diouf has never been any good!

Im beggining to wonder if you even know what your talking about

Do you understand what technique is?!

Zidane, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo indeed do have great technique, but messi?

Messi is the player he is because of his great agility & pace to dribble around people. The guy is pretty poor at shooting and passing the ball.

To me technique is the ability in which a player can pass the football, the way in which he strikes a football and the way in which 'things just look right' when they swipe their foot through the ball as if the end result was 200% exactly what they meant.

Do you honestly think when gerrard scores all the wonder goals he does, all those great match saving goals and so on it was just because he struck his foot through the ball and sort of just wished for the best?

Id call him average if he did it once or twice, but he pops up with a great goal or two almost every other week when liverpool are crying out for his help. Funny enough, did you watch the england game tonight, his goal wasnt half bad "technically" was it..

Id agree that xavi, iniesta, deco etc.. were all a great midfield for barcalona, but put gerrard in that midfield and he will look just as good if not better.

Two words - World Class

Yes I could, but we're not talking about how they would play in a particular team, or whether they would get into our team, this team or that team. We are talking about who is overrated. Those players I mentioned are all fairly good players, but they're not as good as people make them out to be.
Michael Carrick - tell me, is he worth 18million?will he ever fill the boots of Keane and Scholes?
Cristiano Ronaldo - I have never seen this guy play well against a top team.
Arjen Robben - Yea he's good but hes still over rated.
Steven Gerrard - Goes missing in some games, plays well in some games. Bit hit and miss, if your a world class player you can play with anyone
Frank Lampard - Again, if your world class you can play with anyone, why dont him and Gerrard click
Emanuel Adebayor - Can improve but still no better than some of the players in the Prem.

well United hadn't won the league for 3 years, they made 1 signing - Carrick and won the league two years running.

Worth £18m? definitely, he is their best midfielder these days

Cristiano Ronaldo - I have never seen this guy play well against a top team.

Roma? Sporting? Chelsea in the CL final?

it's such a myth that he doesn't play well against top teams, he was top scorer in the CL last season and top scorer in the best league in the world last season.

Kendall, are you talking about when they beat Roma 7-0 in the CL?
And yes he scored in the CL Final, played well for half an hour and then where was he? Would you really call Sporting a top team, as in a team who can challenge for the CL? That is what I am talking about when I saya top team, a team that can win the CL, a team that has the credentials to be a great team. Also, if Ronaldo is so great, how can you say that Carrick is their best midfielder?

Im not saying that any of those players are not good by the way, all im saying is that there is better players out there than them at the moment.

For instance, Messi is the best player in the world IMO, because he gives his all in every match, and yes, I have seen him play well against big teams, because I support Barca in La Liga. Kaka is another player who IMO is a world class player. Both these players are true professionals, they dont dive, or cheat, you never see them moan, they dont give out.
Ronaldo on the other hand is a cheat, who dives(you've all seen it) and moans at the referee.
