Fulham have a transfer ban.
What are their options ?
i) Play him & let him leave on a summer on free
ii) Sell him with no option to loan back - could mean relegation coz, they cant get another player in
iii) Sell him but get back on loan
iii) Solves all the problem. They get the money & they get the player for this window.
As for us , may be we really believe Dembele isnt ready yet. But at same time, we dont want to take the chance of leaving it till summer.
I guess, this is the only deal that will work out for all - though us Spurs fans get the wrong end of stick by not having a back up this season

Perhaps more likely it shows how highly we rate him and wanted to get him now even if we had to loan him back so as to remove any risk on him going elsewhere in the summer on a free ?

We'd have to pay 2-3 in compensation in the summer any way, so there wouldn't be much use for Fulham to accept less now.
In the summer we might have missed out as foreign clubs can sign him already now for close to nowt.
If he had been under a longer contract I'm sure Fulham wouldn't consider any reasonable offer.
