Does anyone know much about this guy? He's said he wants to leave Sporting:

I thought he played well alongside Petit for Portugal and therefore should easily be able to play with JJ/Hudd/Zokora just behind Modric. If we are selling Keane then why not play with a 4231 formation. He looked much better than Veloso in the CL against Utd.

he is so much better than Veloso. I can't believe he said he wanted to leave sporting though.. i wouldn't mind if he was coming to Spurs but not everton :( first berby and keane and now joao...

anyway, he's a good player, he's small but he's not scared of getting stuck in, he's a great passer of the ball, he's the youngest ever sporting captain and he's just overall a great midfielder with ample potential..

So is he the player seen as the future star of the national team? Would he come to Spurs. Judging him on the little I've seen, i'd be very happy if we signed him.

If he'd go to Everton then surely he'd come to us?

I didn't think he was a defensive midfielder though?

nah, Ronaldo is seen as the future of the national team! ;) but yah moutinho is definently seen as having a big part in the future of the national team

and nightgoat, he's not a defensive midfielder, he's just centre midfield, or attacking midfield

Would you say he's similar to Modric? As in it maybe a case of having one or the other in the team?

He plays with Deco for the Portugal team, so could easily play in the same side as Modric. They wouldn't be an ideal 442 CM pairing, but looking at our current squad 442 isn't currently an opition, though we'll obviously bring in new players.

Similar to Xavi, although much younger and more spry. He's got a ton of talent. If we were to bring him in, which I would doubt, we would have to have either a 4-3-3 to accomodate him and Modric or some sort of nominally attacking double pivot.

I'm surprised no other European clubs are in for him, he is a very good player and can certainly do better than Everton.

yup. but there is nothing happening at their place. the fans are mad, moyes is disappointed, and it can't help that key players like cahill will miss the start of the season.

they have yet to get a player in....and it looks like moutinho was/is their only target.

I strongly deny that accusation. it may look like a straight jacket i'm wearing but its just a new fashion.

Well Everton have a spare 10.5m in their pockets now so they may try again to sign him.

this was posted a few days ago by someone who has links to the sporting hierarchy.

On a side note, my contact said that he was surprised that no champions league club had gone in for Moutinho and that the club and player have laughed off the interest from everton. so far only one derisory bid has been made (what we know already from press reports) and the player virtually said "i've never even heard of them!". sporting believe that moutinho will become one of the best midfielders in the world and the fee should reflect that. his ambition is to play for either man utd or chelsea.

it's likely moutinho will stay for one more season at sporting.

on a side note he said to look out for a player called alexis quintulén who is in their youth ranks at the moment. argentinian midfielder. everyone raving about him within the club. they reckon he will be better than masch in a few years time.

I doubt that was really posted by someone with links to Sporting because Moutinho has not laughed off interest from Everton, he came out in the portuguese press saying that he planned on leaving Sporting for Everton and that his heart was set on a move.. the exact quote he said "Já manifestei aos dirigentes a minha vontade da sair. Agora, só espero que Sporting e Everton cheguem a acordo" which means that he told sporting he wants to leave and it's upto sporting and everton to sort it all out..

To be honest I'm not sure about the Veloso link to us.

Sporting will fight to keep hold of Moutinho, but they will let Veloso go. Because Veloso is shit lol, such an overrated player. In the portuguese papers there has been nothing linking us to Veloso.

I agree they will let him go and that he is over rated, certainly on this site, though I'm not sure he's "shit" :). But what i doubt is our interest. I don't doubt Dan's integrity, but i do have serious doubts about some of the information his sources give him and I think the Veloso link initally came from him. There have been a few other ITKs briefly mentioning him, but I've always taken that as they are covering all the bases and don't want to get caught out in case we do sign him. Like you, I don't believe this Dwain guy. Ultimatley I think there are much better players available for much lower prices and can't see why Ramos would want Veloso. I think Veloso has potential and talent, but he's nowehere near as good at this stage, as many seem to think he is.
