New Formation Next Season?

I think like a lot of the better teams in the Premiership that we will move to a 4-3-3 formation for quite a few games next year.I would say that we currently don't have the right personnel to play that system at this present time but we are not that far away from it either.
I am not so sure who will be in goal next season!
Looking at our defence we seem to have the right mixture.
HUTTON.................WOODGATE.....KING....................BALE.....
2 good fullbacks who like to get forward and 2 world class centre backs.
Midfield looks promising as well.
......................................ZOKORA......................................
.....................JENAS............................HUDDLESTONE..........
A good mix here also,Zokora who is better as a holding/defensive player,Jenas good at forward runs and scoring goals, the Hudd who can spray killer passes to all our forward players is very good at set pieces and can strike a very sweet shot!
Surprisingly our forward line is where we fall down a bit!
Lennon and Malbranque are full of industry but have no real goal threat, physical presence and their end product is pretty poor!
Berbatov,Keane and Bent are all good strikers who all like to be in the centre, could any of them adapt to playing more on the wings, here I am not so sure.
I think we still need 2 forward players who can also play on the left and the right side of our attack.
I am not suggesting that we will never play 4-4-2 again but I really believe that 4-3-3(which can easily switch to 4-5-1)
is the way forward especially away from home.I know we have scored a bagful of goals this year but we have also conceded a bucket load and I think we need to be a far tighter unit next season!

i think you will find that Ramos, will not stick with one formation! Depending on who we are playing he knows who to change... i wondered what he was doing haveing 3 out of four defenders at the back and sticking bent on for one of them.... well 4 mins later...2 goals...

Im sure he wld start usually 4-4-2 majority of the time, but i dont think he has ended a game that way!

I don't reckon 4-3-3 is the way forward and a lot of top teams in the prem don't play it.

Ar5ena1 play 4-4-2 with van Persie and Adebayor up front (they've only played 4-5-1 due to the former not being available for large chunks of the season).

Liverpool tend to play 4-4-2 with Torres alongside... who knows to be honest as Rafa does tinker a wee bit...

Man U play 4-4-2 with Rooney and Tevez up top and Ronaldo providing a few goals from the wing!

Chelski play 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 but lets be honest, they tend to be really boring and would probably be better off adapting to a 4-4-2.

In Spain:

Barcelona play a 4-3-3 / xmas tree 4-3-2-1 formation but Spain is a different kettle of fish in terms of play and mentality of the players. Although Ramos always played 4-4-2 with sucessfull effect at Seville.

I'd prefer to stick with 4-4-2 and hopefully get that elusive left winger next season to play ahead of Bale... Two left footers... on... the left wing... it's just too crazy to think about at Spurs!

i can see where you are getting ghe idea for this, Chimbonda and Hutton both overlaped in the last few games with the midfield msotly tucking into the center, which IMO makes it too congested, i do disagree slightly with how it would line up instead of the 433 you sujest i think it would be mroe of a 4-1-2-1-2 (basicly a dimond formation) with an attacking midfield or a striker playing at the top (i would prefer an attacking midfielder)

I would however prefer to stick to the 442 and only use this in certain games which Ramos would feel it would be better, or if he needs to change the game to go more attacking

I think the use of all 3 of our strikers could certainly be an option, and I would like to see it be explored in a couple of games we have left.

Not neccesarily a 4-3-3, although it is intersting that Berba seems to drop into midfield when we do play all three. But I think Bent showed that he offers something different, and against teams that put 10 men behind the ball he can be very useful. Our build up can be a bit slow at times, and involve a lot of passing in front of the opposition without really creating a clear chance.

4 - 4 - 2 will be our starting point 99% of the time and then as the game develops Ramos has a tendancy to change the positioning of the players either expose a weakness of the opposition or to strengthen one of our weakness that the opposition are looking to expose. Ramos has and excellent plan A but, also has the ability to effect the game on the fly and normal it has a positive effect on the game.

Spot on. I'm sure Ramos will try to build a squad to play 4-4-2 "Ramos football" (compact, with wingers & attacking FBs). However he will continue to be prepared to change formation during the game to outfox the opposition coach.

The only wild card would be if a top class Number 10 became available, given Riquelme said we made him a great offer soon after Ramos became our coach. However, Real Madrid are now in for Diego, whilst the Werder chairman has said "If someone wants to buy Diego, they have to kill me first. Diego will only leave Werder over my dead body,". So, there aren't very many world class Number 10s on the market at this moment in time....

I'm pretty certain that 4-4-2 will continue to be Don Juande's preferred starting shape next season.

No matter what formation we play next season, should it be a 4-4-2,4-3-3 or 4-5-1,we will have to buy 2 very good wide players who can switch wings and go inside or stay on their own side and cross from the byline!

I reckon any formation will greatly depend on who stays and who comes in.

For example: if Berbs leaves, our whole approach play may well need to alter to accomodate new players. Likewise the midfield & defence.

I also feel we have seen the back of Ledders as a regular player for us - the longer his "1 game in, 3 games off" goes on, the worse this feeling gets! :-( Hope I am wrong.........

On the 'players in' bit, I can see up to 7 being wanted/needed.........

Fluidity is the go. Have a look at Ramos has actually done when we have been in trouble or needed to break the game. Often he has gone with 3 at the back in formations resembling 3 4 3 or 3 5 2. SC contributors (and our fans) have had a definate coaching experience beyond Jols Coaching 101. Whatever Ramos starts with next year will be just that, the start. Fluidity is his style and with Hutton and Bale both looking as much like wing backs as out and out fullbacks, I can see them both flying forward on occasions. What does this mean for other players? Zokora in his withdrawn sweeper in front of the back 3 becomes even more nailed down. Lennon looks vulnerable unless he comes more central. Huddlestone and Jenas can play in front of Zokora and will benefit from doing so. Malbranque, like Lennon could be squeezed in such a line up. I feel we will add one strong forward and central midfielder to the squad, and a keeper.

So you kinda agree with me then, good lad you know your stuff.
Of course it has been widely reported that we will change our keeper and I think that it is pretty nailed on that we will.
Tainio will probably be sold and will be replaced by at least one midfielder but I still think we will buy a left sided winger/striker and a right winger/striker.Add these players to the squad that we currently have(that Ramos will keep) and I think we have enough cover to adapt to absolutely any system the manager wants to play!
By the way I don't think Lennon and Malbranque will be sold but they will be very handy squad players to have at our managers disposal!

I really don't understand how you can say that the top 4 teams in England do not play a 4-3-3 system and a xmas tree formation is still part of a 4-3-3 as is a 4-5-1!
Liverpool,Arsenal and United don't play 4-3-3! When was the last time you saw them?

in another thread it was suggested we go 2-1-2-3-2 WTF? I didn't bother replying but I thought y'all might like a giggle.

I prefer 4-2-2-2 and with Hutton/ Chimbo and Bale/ Gil we have the WBs to cope with the demands.
