Stag Do Gooner apparently
I wondered if that's what it was....

We did same last year for 2 mates who had a joint stag in Ibiza. Both massive United fans and we made them wear full scouse kits on one of the days. People coming up shaking their hands saying they loved Liverpool etc and the trouble they had trying to explain that they weren't scouse fans lol

Look at every resale version, the cockerel is stitched on as a patch.

So they could follow the silhouette of the cockerel like they do with France.

I stand by my point that the crest is a design feature that the club will have bought into and not had forced upon them by Nike.

It's never that straightforward. I suspect that a cockerel shaped patch might have been put in front of the club's decision makers along with alternative patch stores and they have chosen whichever they have preferred. I'm not saying a particular style was foisted upon the club, but equally that it seems a clear trend for Nike club's to have the crest applied in this manner. No other manufacturer is so consistent (all the others will embroider) and it's surely no coincidence that moving to Nike is coupled to having a change to a patch/shield.

Judging by the City kit, I'd say the one leaked the other day is pretty much what ours will be. Got the same sleave deat

I think I have an answer for why we'll have a shield... and why it's probably not going away for the entirety of our Nike kit deal...

Think of other Nike clubs or even countries... Man City, Chelsea, England, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Malaga etc...

All their badges come in shield form, they can effectively be mass produced and stitched on like patches. Our badge isn't quote so friendly that way and has to be embroidered. I suspect Nike won't embroider it, for whatever reason (COST) and find it easier and cheaper to mass produce shirts with a simple stitch pattern. Therefore, we end up with a shield, to allow it to be stitched to the shirt easily. It occurred to me when I looked at the shield on the image above and it was apparent that the cockerel wasn't embossed, it is flat to the shield, meaning no embroidery required.

It's probably as a result of Nike developing a process and production line which suits the fact that they've always had clubs with shield motifs (Arsenal and Man Utd before in England for example)

So, yeah, It's almost certainly not about history, design or any other fanciful notion... it's a money thing, pure and simple and if Nike are paying us a bucketload to produce our shirts for us then we just have to accept it's their way or the highway!

Oh and as a side note, I don't mind the idea of having a shield, I just really do not like the shape of the one on the recently leaked shirt. Much prefer the idea of something more closely related to the 60s style.

Possible answer I guess, but the chances are that if we were just to have the cockerel then it would be printed of transferred on like the sponsors logo and the tick.

Not sure why people are getting so bent out of shape. It's not like it's got a picture of some hippocrockapig like Katie Hopkins on the front of it.

If anything it's just a bit boring.

It seems that Nike are sticking to these rather dull templates as the moment. It would be good if they would actually come out and explain to people why they insist on doing this rather than having original designs per team. I know there will be the obvious reasons but to hear them actually address it would be nice.

I think away kit will look good as a reverse of this with Navy and the white trim and the purple third will be good but I'll be sticking to the training wear personally as there will be a wide variety of options and colours and Nike are known for doing good training gear.
