Spurs consider White Hart Lane exit for 55,000-seat stadium

[/FONT] Tottenham Hotspur are exploring the possibility of building a new stadium on the trading estate that is adjacent to White Hart Lane. The Wingate estate is to the north of the ground, behind Paxton Road and between the High Road and Worcester Avenue. The club has identified it as an option, as they seek to increase capacity and, in turn, revenue streams. The club's other option is to stay put and expand White Hart Lane, which can presently hold 36,310 fans. The global credit crunch has made fundraising for major capital projects difficult and it may turn out to be more viable to develop the existing stadium. There is a desire for at least another 15,000 seats, although expansion plans are complicated because the ground is boxed in on all sides.

If Tottenham made the short hop to Wingate - having first been granted planning permission and reached agreement with the businesses there - they could seek to build a 55-60,000 seat stadium.

When I was a kid, my mum worked in a blouse factory in the Wingate Trading Estate.

If I remember correctly, there are shops and buildings between the Estate and the stadium so they would have to be demolished.

The worst problem in the area is the traffic congestion and the time it can take to get into and out of the High Road for games.

If there were to be a new stadium, the best option would be somewhere near the River Lea, where there is still quite a lot of land and access to and from games would be easier with the addition of a few new link roads.

As long as it doesn't involve a temporary ground share - then within reason I don't mind what we do - but build a new stadium next to the Lane sounds great to me

Cant see how traffic can pose a problem the goons built a new stadium and the traffic round there is as bad if not worse than the lane.

I was told as well that they or any other club will never be allowed to build a stadium over 60k as Ken Livingstone dont think that London could cope with the amount of people.

correctamondo dudette.

i've always said that the best option would be to actually build a stadium on top of the river. we would have the worlds first floating stadium.

A floating stadium would be awesome... even if we don't qualify for europe we could tow the stadium down to the mediterrian for a week or something

They don't have to move anything. A third terace can be build on support columns without blocking the roads arround the stadium. One of the sides of "Vicente Calderon" is like that.
