Moving the buildings to another area will be pointless. They are, after all, nothing special but they fit in as part of the local area. They would be worthless placed in a sort of 'graveyard for listed buildings'.

In spite of all the brownie points THFC should get for the extra social housing and better use of Warmington House, I foresee resistance to the removal of the three buildings from people with influence.

Totally agree. These are buildings that lose any real interest when out of context (unless an architectural historian knows better). And the enormous redevelopment all around them will remove that context.

So neither preserving them nor moving them serves any useful conservation purpose.

Knock 'em down.

The Pre-Application brief to council took place on Thursday night. A link to the webcast recording follows. One item of interest is that the sliding pitch will be in three (3) sections and 'folded' under the South Stand.
The briefing starts at just over half way - when the models appear on tables in front of councillors

I think he says it divides into 3 and 'tucks' away (2:08:50) under the south stand rather than 'folds'.
The idea that the pitch is cut horizontally in 3 and the sections stored/folded on top of each other is interesting as it would reduce the area that was difficult to build over.
But if he was showing a remarkable image of the pitch somehow stacking up on itself, then surely he would have said more about that.

The only picture we have been shown of the south stand is having flat box for the retractable pitch - there are no levels to store the sections and in any case, that sounds like an engineering nightmare.

The sensible conclusion is that the intention is to cut the pitch into 3 length ways, so as to avoid the south stand's 2 rows of support columns.
I'm afraid my dream of a revolutionary suspended stand held up by cables has been destroyed.
This stand now looks to be fully connected to the ground. How dull!

So just got back from an afternoon with friends, he works for Lafarge Tarmac and he was saying their brand new mobile plant (making concrete) is being delivered straight to the lane in September. He knows this as he wanted it to bid on a job for rolls Royce (or similar). He said it's a state of the art machine that means they can create the stuff on site and quickly. I just thought it was interesting and wanted to share in good faith☺️

As long as Tom Hardy doesn't abandon his concrete-supervisory post to attend the birth of his bastard son we should be laughing.

quick question for @davidmatzdorf or anyone else who might be able to answer:

So the retractable pitch is clearly not going to be outside in natural sunlight, the plan seems to be for it to be underground using a lot of artificial lighting to keep it healthy and green. People keep asking where will the pitch go, because as far as I can see, all the plans so far show the pitch remaining in one whole piece as it retracts, and obviously south of the south stand is where the hotels etc are situated, so presumably it will have to extend beneath them.

Could a system work where the pitch is split into several sections of pitch, that as they retract, they split up and stack on top of each other, obviously with enough space left in between layers for the necessary lighting infrastructure to be in place, just as it would have been if it stayed whole. This would seem to me to save a lot of space as the area for the pitch could easily just be sunk deeper into the ground.

Just a thought, little illustration below to show what I mean. Appreciate any answers.

I called the retractable pitch being split into sections and stacked.

Boom.

It's not going to be stacked. You can see where it will go on the cross section of the kop end.

It looks like it will be split in three so that the kop stand can have support.

Maybe I've misunderstood then, because I assumed the description of it "folding" meant it would end up one section atop another. I can't really understand where it fits if this isn't the case.

Where did the folding comment come from? The comittee meeting only mentioned the pitch being split into 3 as far as i'm aware.

Am I the only one worried that splitting the pitch might lead to freak accidents and injuries when players are around the separation areas?

It will be rolled, watered and have a few days to link properly. If we are going for it then it must be practical.

Am I the only one who looks forward to the day when we're beating Arsenal 2-1 on the last day of the season to win the League when one of their players breaks away one-on-one with the keeper. If they score, they'll take the title from us. Surely it's all over for Spurs when, suddenly, up in the directors' box, the hand of a small bald man reaches out, presses a button and the pitch splits into three, causing the Arsenal player to fall to his doom and ensuring that the game is won by Tottenham...

I bet there's not a rule in place that makes that illegal either,

Even better if that one man is Wiltshire, he is young enough to be humiliated at the new WHL!

Went to the training ground today for a tour and quick presentation on the new stadium.
No real new news, though saw a pic of the north stand which I hadn't seen before (others may have).
No boxes in the north stand and it will be three tiers. There are only boxes in the East and West stands which I think is really positive as it means no club level behind the goals.
From what they were saying it seems that the pitch will go under the south stand where it will sit in an area with sprinklers, lamps etc and space will be 2m high so it can still be worked on.
Apologies if this info is already out there, thought I'd share just in case it wasn't.
