To be clear from the outset, this is not ITK. But equally not me speculating/taking a punt.

The tie up with Wembley for the season away from The Lane could be announced in the next week.

Makes sense. Season ticket renewals are being issued next Tuesday, so the club really needs to confirm what's happening with regards to CL matches before that. Those of us on Autopay for cup matches may wish to switch it off for next season if games are to be played away from WHL.

Anyone know what the capacity will likely be for the champions league ties at Wembley? Sure I read somewhere that the top tiers would be closed reducing it to 50k

Something I've brought up before also. Will Spurs have negotiated for the CL matches to be within or outside of Wembley's 37(?) permitted 'major events' as opposed to when we play there for the season when our PL league matches which would clearly be in addition. I haven't seen the answer to this yet.

If we play say Barca in the CL next season then clearly the demand would be high. Would be a shame if we were restricted to the 50k limit for this type of match.

My understanding from earlier discussions is that it doesn't count as a "major event" if you close the top tier and reduce capacity to 50k.

Think you misunderstood my rather garbled reply. The previous poster was asking whether the CL matches would also need to fall within this figure. I was basically asking the same thing as they are different competitions and there may well may be some 'slack' within the overall figure which would mean we could use the full stadium for certain 'extraordinary' games such as CL. Kick out Bruce Springsteen (or the equivalent) next year and send him to the Olympic Stadium or Twickenham for example?

Edit - I don't like quoting this but "Arsenal had virtually sold out each game (Wembley), despite a poor showing over both years resulting in a record of two wins, one draw and three defeats".

Edit 2 - it will also be interesting to see whether Spurs have managed to negotiate the full stadium in the subsequent season for any 'golden' games such as the gooners at home. Down to the calendar I guess.

Arsenal played CL at Wembley long before the current licence was agreed with Brent council.

It's almost certain that there are two groups to negotiate with, the FA who run the stadium and Brent Council who set the event limits. And it's a fair distinction because someone has to pay for policing and other event management

Does anyone have access to the full Times article from Gary Jacob? Seems to be quite a lot of stadium info in it from the snippets I've seen. The 'free' part is all about us announcing Wembley today.

Is the distance of the stands to ensure the pikeys are kept away from the playing area on purpose? In case they throw beer bottles when Mourinho parks the man ure team coach?

I understood, from the same earlier discussions here that I referenced above, that the limit on "major events" was incorporated into the original planning consent for the construction of Wembley Stadium, not a licence from Brent Council.

A licence could be varied by simple mutual consent. If someone wanted to vary or waive a planning condition, they would have to apply for an amended planning consent, which would trigger a public consultation and would require a Brent Council committee resolution.

The reason the difference is important is that the restriction was a concession to the demands of local residents. Thus the council is not able to waive it in circumstances of its own choosing.

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to announce today that they will play their Champions League matches at Wembley next season and use the national stadium as a temporary home while White Hart Lane is rebuilt in the following campaign.

The overall deal could be worth more than £25 million to the FA if Tottenham progress beyond the group stage of Europe’s leading club competition next season.

There is nothing in the contract to prevent Chelsea from also using the venue in 2017-18, but the west London club may not be ready to redevelop their ground in time as they may only receive planning permission for their proposed redevelopment of Stamford Bridge this summer.

Tottenham will use Wembley for Champions League games next season as about 4,000 seats will be removed from a corner of White Hart Lane this summer to help the building work that has started on their new stadium, adjacent to their present home. The club will be limited to playing in front of 50,800 people at Wembley because of local planning constraints, but the deal includes the potential for them to use the full 90,000 capacity should they be drawn against a big European team.

Although Tottenham expect to need to leave their home for one season, there is also understood to be a contingency plan agreed with the FA should their builders overrun and the club need to use Wembley for a longer period.

Spurs will pay £20 million to use the stadium for the 2017-18 campaign, but the governing body may have to bear some of the operational costs.

Tottenham plan to fund their new stadium using a combination of a loan and commercial income. They have agreed a £25 million-a-year deal with Nike to become their shirt manu- facturer from 2017 and are aiming to receive the same sum per season from naming rights of their new ground.

Mauricio Pochettino, the Tottenham manager, has admitted that his financial muscle in the transfer market will be squeezed as a result of the redevelopment and would prefer that the club use spare money to tie down his senior players to better deals.

Pochettino wants to sign only a few players and is expected to lodge an offer for Michy Batshuayi after watching the Marseilles striker play in the French Cup final on Saturday. Batshuayi has scored 17 and made six other league goals this season and is likely to cost upwards of £25 million. His transfer could be partly funded by Tottenham offloading Nacer Chadli, Batshuayi’s Belgium team-mate, who has two years left on his deal. Chadli was mainly used as a substitute at the end of the season and took the blame for a mistake that led to a 1-0 defeat by West Ham United at Upton Park in March.

So if we get 90,000 for a CL game does that count as our highest ever attendence? Isnt the record 78,000 v sunderland?

The stadium announcements should be Friday, rather than today.

The 6-week appeal period on the planning application doesn't expire till the 27th, so I doubt we'll jump the gun on anything till that is 100% concluded.

The heritage groups have already announced they will not be asking for a judicial review.

Exactly what I was asking. There hopefully is flexibility in what is this agreement to what may and may not fall within the local constraints. I had asked this earlier, twice in fact, before that Times article but it does not seem to have registered.
