If JJ suggest it will be ready to host home matches in Jan then I'm sure we'll open for Newcastle. Just because it's not going to open for the Utd game that doesn't mean it wont be ready. It just means they can't commit to it just in case so had to make the decision for Wembley instead. 7th of Jan gives plenty of notice for fans planning to travel from Newcastle.

You should it's really quite interesting and insightful. I almost fell off my chair when i read it. I was speachless, i thought nah? Really? Had to show my mate to see what he thought. He dropped down dead straight in front of me. When the police asked what happened i showed them. One started crying and the other immediately started talking in tounges.

Lol. No. I'm staying away. I wanna see if I'm still sane come 1 February. I do miss the transfer thread though. Loved the scouting work of some of our posters.

Levy might need to go into hiding if we have a bad winter transfer season AND still don't have a stadium.

OR

February 1, a new signing (or two) and a new stadium and all the negative energy over the last 6 months will be a distant memory.

Watford’s an evening game. Police will not be keen on that. It’s looking like a Geordie christening.
Dont see why not. It's the only game in London. As opposed to 2nd Feb where you have Chelsea, palace, spurs, west ham, brentford, millwall, borehamwood, wealdstone as London matches on the same day

Let's hope the Times report from earlier this week was accurate. It said we were in a position to hold the test events and were trying for the 30th and the 6th (as ITK had previously stated) but that the police were not willing due to the holidays.

If that's true then we should be able to hold the test events in early January and move in for the FA Cup tie, Watford, or Newcastle.

Not sure what Christmas has to do with test event on January 6? Let’s hope they can do them on these dates and get us in ASAP

You know you can choose to not have negative feelings right?

The stadium will open when it opens. What happens in January will happen. Some people will be pissed off no matter what, but you can choose if you are one of those people or not. Being negative wont speed up the stadium or pay transfer fees.

As promised we wanted to update you, our supporters, on the status of the new stadium.
The past few months have been spent rectifying issues with the critical safety systems. We are pleased to report that progress has been steady and we are now into the integrated testing and commissioning phases that take place ahead of the application for a stadium safety certificate.
Testing is being conducted both during the day and night and our contractors will continue to work during the Christmas period. Barring no further significant issues we should then be in a position to schedule Test Events.
This does mean therefore that we need to confirm that our Premier League home game against Manchester United will take place at Wembley.
We shall receive a status report from our contractors in the week commencing 7 January 2019 and will update you thereafter.
Chairman, Daniel Levy, said: “We are acutely conscious that we are asking fans to go to Wembley for far longer than any of us wanted to. However we are now seeing the progress that we needed to see.
“What I don’t want to do is set any firm dates until we have finally achieved a safety certificate. So many people tell me to look at other major schemes that run late and, whilst I know it happens often, we are still hugely frustrated.
“It is important, however, to recognise the sheer complexity of the scheme. It will be one of the first fully-integrated digital stadiums and will also be required to meet the latest and most stringent safety regulations.
“Once again I want to apologise to fans and to thank you for your ongoing support. We have a busy time ahead both on and off the pitch, particularly after last night’s amazing qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League. What a memorable night. I should also like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families well over the festive break.”

I'm actually releaved to be honest. I caught the arse end of the news on TS and heard Levy had announced something. Then I came on here to find out what it was and saw 'oh ffs' and 'clever of Levy to announce it now after last night to soften the blow' and I was thinking oh Christ its not gonna open until next season.
And then I see its confirming it wont be the Man U game which nobody fkin thought it would be anyway!
Oh no. What a disaster. What shall we do? (n) o_O

People drink more for evening matches, the police generally need a bigger presence. Also the club will want a weekend match ideally. They’ll want to make an event of it. I’d put my money on Newcastle.

I hope the first game is not a CL round. I think the team should be given time to acclimatise to their new surroundings.

Levy would love that. Guarantee of a full house no matter if we play a League 2 team.
I think it will regardless, fans are going to fill the stadium for several weeks of games I reckon. Maybe for the rest of the season.

Disagree. It's a weekday. If it was arsenal late on a Saturday then yes. A game like this will not be stopped due to police.

EDIT that's not to say the match will go ahead on this day, just that it wont be dictated by a need for police
